I use the tools that work for me and I don\u2019t feel like I have to have the best and newest.\u00a0 As a minimalist, I aim to have not more stuff, just the right stuff.\u00a0 A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/ca5012afu.html\">Canon 50mm f\/1.2 lens<\/a> is the <em>right stuff.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Elena-Patrick-dinner0703-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Elena-Patrick-dinner0703-2.jpg 5760w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Elena-Patrick-dinner0703-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Elena-Patrick-dinner0703-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5760px) 100vw, 5760px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt goes to eleven\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Spinal Tap<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Owning this lens is like joining a secret society.\u00a0 Its members know what opening up one or two extra stops can do. It is often the reason people look at our photos and say, \u201cWow! How did you do that?\u201d\u00a0 It is the reason why when I am shooting events and I just want to use available light during the ceremony that I can make beautiful images. If you don\u2019t know what this is referring than you are most likely much younger than me and you haven\u2019t seen \u201cSpinal Tap\u201d \u2013 I highly recommend you watch this film, not to be missed.<\/li>\n<li>It is bright and beautiful. This is what people are talking about when they say a \u201cbeautiful piece of glass\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>If in trouble it can be used as a weapon. Seriously, if you are coming home late at night from an assignment and you have your camera around your shoulder like I always do \u2013 swinging a Canon 5D mark iii with a 50mm1.2 can seriously injure any predator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Jen-and-Colin-Wedding0194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Jen-and-Colin-Wedding0194.jpg 5760w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Jen-and-Colin-Wedding0194-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Jen-and-Colin-Wedding0194-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5760px) 100vw, 5760px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Downside:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Truly everything about this lens works. Except\u2026with the hood on it is a bulky and heavy lens.\u00a0 But, if you read my next review about the Black Rapid strap you know that these amazing camera straps make it super comfortable to wear even a heavy camera and lens combination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The price, at a whopping $1439.00 it is an expensive lens. But darling the best ones always are\u2026\u00a0 And if you buy it now there is a $100 rebate offer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30648\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Amanda-Joey1451.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Amanda-Joey1451.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Amanda-Joey1451-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you do open up to 1.2 or 1.4 you will have a super low depth of field so be certain the focus is sharp where you want it to be sharp. Adjust the shutter speed accordingly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Prime lenses (fixed length) will sometimes create red dots when shooting directly into the light. Test this out with your lens and see when and how it happens. The dots can be removed in post-production, but I am old school and I like to get it right in-camera.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is an investment, but this is one of those lenses you will never regret having in your camera bag.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a minimalist, I aim to have not more stuff, just the right stuff.
