DxOMark<\/a> has just published reviews of the Nikon D5000<\/a> and Canon Ti<\/a>, the two main DSLRs to come out this spring, and report a 10-point gap in their sensor image quality scores, with the Nikon coming out ahead. The ratings, which are based on analysis of RAW image data at the sensor level, do not take into accouunt internal post-processing which may take place when converting images to JPEGs, which may narrow or even eliminate this gap. But, “the Nikon D5000 outperforms the Canon [Ti] for every metric evaluated on dxomark.com.” Should this make a difference when making a purchasing decision? Yes, but only a slight one. Other factors, such as layout, performance, resolution, and whether or not you are already invested in one lens system or another, may weigh more heavily.<\/p>\n
