{"id":43071,"date":"2018-01-23T12:34:26","date_gmt":"2018-01-23T17:34:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/?p=43071"},"modified":"2018-04-11T12:18:02","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T16:18:02","slug":"dji-announces-the-mavic-air-its-best-ultra-compact-drone-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/dji-announces-the-mavic-air-its-best-ultra-compact-drone-yet\/","title":{"rendered":"DJI Announces the Mavic Air: Its Best Ultra-Compact Drone Yet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coming off the release of the Spark and the Mavic Pro, DJI is back with their brand new consumer drone: the <strong>DJI&nbsp;Mavic Air<\/strong>, announced this morning in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Equipped with a 3-axis gimbal, a 7-camera vision system, a 4k camera (and more), the Mavic Air is the company\u2019s most portable, powerful, and intelligent drone to date, starting at $799.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in three colors (Arctic White, Onyx Black, and Flame Red), the drone is half the size of a Mavic Pro, and weighs roughly 41% less than the Pro.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43081\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43081\" style=\"width: 1068px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-43081 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC02034.jpg\" alt=\"DJI Mavic Air\" width=\"1068\" height=\"712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC02034.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC02034-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC02034-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1068px) 100vw, 1068px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43081\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Fernando Martinez\/AdoramaTV<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what it features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-axis stabilized gimbal<\/li>\n<li>3-directional environment sensing (front, bottom, back)<\/li>\n<li>12 MP still images<\/li>\n<li>32 MP spherical panorama mode<\/li>\n<li>1\/2.3 CMOS sensor<\/li>\n<li>4K video at 30fps, 100 mbps, and slow-motion<\/li>\n<li>Video in 1080p at 120fps<\/li>\n<li>Up to 21 minutes of flight time<\/li>\n<li>2.5 mile range<\/li>\n<li>Speeds up to 42.5 MPH<\/li>\n<li>8GB internal storage (with a USB-C export)<\/li>\n<li>4 foldable legs<\/li>\n<li>Remote has removable control sticks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taking the most popular features of its two predecessors, the Mavic Air features specs similar to the Pro, and uses a 1\/2.3-inch sensor that is able to record 4K video at 24 or 30 frames per second. It can take 12 megapixel still images, and includes a wide angle 24mm f2.8 lens. For another option, the drone&#8217;s new 3D panorama mode stitches together 25 photos in just eight seconds to create a &#8220;Sphere Panorama&#8221; for the ultimate easy-to-create shot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS), it can detect obstacles in its path, by moving above or around them. The collision-avoiding system, FlightAutonomy 2.0, uses the 7-camera vision system to build a 3D map of the environment, identifying objects up to 66 feet away for maximum flight safety. A further range is possible with a smartphone (262 feet) or remote (2.5 miles).
