Premiering this morning at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nikon has announced<\/a> the debut of its latest addition to the next generation Nikon Z Mount: the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f\/4 S lens<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The lens, created with landscape, travel, event, and architecture photographers and videographers in mind, includes a new optical design in a lightweight package \u2014 to compare, it’s about 28.6 percent lighter and 32 percent shorter shorter than the AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f\/4G ED VR, the company notes. The ultra-wide zoom lens is a first for the new Z Mount system, and was designed to be used in sync with the 45.7-megapixel Nikon Z7<\/a>, giving up to five stops of image stabilization when paired with the in-body 5-axis VR in the camera bodies. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe NIKKOR Z 14-30mm lens demonstrates the optical superiority of the Z system, taking advantage of the newest high-performance lens technologies while maximizing compactness and portability,\u201d Jay Vannatter, Executive Vice President, Nikon Inc., announced in a company press release. <\/p>\n

The 1.07-pound lens, which measures 3.5 inches when retracted, has a flat front lens element, Nikon notes, which makes it the first 14mm filter-attachable ultra-wide-angle zoom lens in the world. The design gives photographers the option to attach 82mm circular polarizers and neutral-density filters, further adding to the number of customizable styles and creative options. <\/p>\n

The lens includes four Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements with four aspherical elements, and the anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat protects from extreme lighting situations, reducing flare and ghosting during shoots. The lens’ auto-focus (AF) performance is boosted thanks to the Stepping Motor (STM) technology, especially in situations where camera noise has traditionally brought trouble. <\/p>\n

A customizable control ring brings the option of manual focusing, aperture control, or exposure compensation, while a dust- and drip-resistant coating keeps dust, moisture, grease, and dirt from damaging the technology. <\/p>\n
