Yesterday, Sony formed the new Cinema Line \u2014 a set of three cameras (to date) designed to provide operability and cinema quality to content creators of all production sizes. The cinema line is comprised of the VENICE, FX9, and the upcoming FX6, and emphasizes Sony\u2019s image quality and technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overview of included cameras:<\/b><\/h2>\n

  1. VENICE<\/b><\/a> : The VENICE was released in 2018 after taking in feedback from many cinematographers. The VENICE is a go-to camera for digital movie production with its Dual Base ISO, lever lock type e-mount, and color expression beyond Rec. 2020. The 36 x 24mm full-frame sensor captures high-end shots across its wide-ranging video formats such as 4K 2.39:1 120 FPS, and 6K 3:2 60 FPS.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. FX9<\/b><\/a>: The FX9 is a powerful full-frame cinematic camera that can record in formats up to 6K. The FX9 is known for its exceptional auto-focus technology and excellent tracking speed. The FX9 offers 15+ stops of dynamic range to detail the brightest whites and darkest blacks and gives creators almost limitless freedom in post-production color. Further, the FX9 integrates 3D LUTs and Hybrid Log Gamma to speed up the workflow.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. FX6<\/b>: Sony has yet to release the exact specs for the FX6, but it\u2019s shaping up to be the most beginner-friendly camera in the Cinema Line, and intended for those making the (decent-sized) jump from a mirrorless to a professional cinema camera. The FX6 is smaller and more budget-friendly than the FX9, but is expected to maintain Sony’s legacy of impressive AF, stabilization, color, formats, etc. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Crafting better cinema cameras:<\/b><\/h2>\n

    The goal of the Cinema Line is to continue to tailor and update these trusted digital cameras to fit the feedback and cinematic needs of creators.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThe voice of our customer is critical to everything we do,\u201d says Neal Manowitz, Depuy President of Imaging Products and Solutions Americas at Sony. \u201cWe have the deepest respect for filmmakers, cinematographers and storytellers, and will continue to evolve our product line to meet and exceed their demands.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    Users can already see those improvements in action with the <\/span>Version 6.0 firmware<\/span><\/a> update for the VENICE coming in November 2020, and the Version 3.0 firmware update for the FX9 coming in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n

    With <\/span>Version 6.0<\/span><\/a>, users can expect expanded high frame rate capabilities in the VENICE including 3.8K 16:9 110 FPS, 4K 6:5 72 FPS, and 5.7K 16:9 72 FPS. Users can also look forward to various shooting assist function upgrades like second user frame line and 1:1 preset frame line. The FX9\u2019s Version 3.0 firmware is set to include remote control capability with the addition of S700PTP protocol and Center Scan Mode for Super 16mm lenses.<\/span><\/p>\n
