\nHendrick, tell us a bit about your approach to wedding photography.<\/span><\/strong>
\nI think I thrive on being a bit different, a bit edgier. Quite honestly, as a wedding photographer in NY and NYC in particular, the market is so saturated, that one\u2019s only hope is to stand out. I\u2019m all about dramatic and creative lighting, and from the very beginning, I\u2019ve never been fond of safe and standard, \u201cSmile at the camera!\u201d type photography. I think that’s been a big part of my success.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nWhat is the philosophy or mantra of your work?<\/span><\/strong>
\nPersonally, my philosophy is that I want to draw the viewer in with something stellar that still shows off the subjects\u2019 personality that they can keep and show to future generations\u2026 I feel like we have such a responsibility (and really, quite an honor) to do well for our clients in this regard. <\/span><\/p>\n


\nHow did you get started in wedding photography?<\/span><\/strong>
\nWhile it\u2019s always been something I\u2019ve loved doing, I had the great fortune of being able to second-shoot for my (now) sister-in-law\u2019s wedding in South Africa. That started my love for wedding photography specifically. I then shot my very first solo wedding referred by friends who were doing cinematography for it at the Waterside in North Bergen, NJ, and it all snowballed from there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

What advice do you have for photographers new to the wedding business?<\/span><\/strong>
\nBasic advice is to always have backup equipment, which is absolutely essential, and something that probably shouldn\u2019t even need mentioning.<\/span>
\nSecond, always look for the light, and learn how to use it to your advantage. That means not being afraid of direct sunlight at any time of day. Bring your own off-camera lighting when the ideal light isn\u2019t available naturally. Make the direction of your light the priority over the softness of your light when your intent is to flatter.<\/span>
\nAlways look ahead. And up. And down. Pretty much, everywhere.<\/span>
\nLastly, never stop learning.<\/span><\/p>\n
