Because of its shallow depth of field and the way it composes the elements of an image, a telephoto lens suits my photography style. Although, when testing out the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/sg202soe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sigma 20mm 2f Contemporary Lens<\/a><\/strong>, I was seriously impressed with how much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/brands\/Sigma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sigma<\/a> managed to fit in such a small package.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05216.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80094\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05216.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05216-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05216-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"key-features-of-the-sigma-20mm-contemporary-lens\">Key Features of the Sigma 20mm Contemporary Lens:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Available for L-Mount and Sony E-mount<\/li><li>All-metal body <\/li><li>Fast, f2 aperture <\/li><li>Manual aperture ring <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A 20mm lens is considered \u2014 by most \u2014 to be super wide-angle lens. My first idea to put this lens through its paces was to go hiking in search of some beautiful landscapes. But since it\u2019s about zero degrees in New York right now, I went to the only reliable place to be both beautiful <em>and<\/em> warm \u2014 the conservatory at the Botanic Gardens.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05032.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80097\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05032.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05032-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05032-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"first-impression\">First Impression<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon mounting this lens to my camera, I immediately noticed the high-end build quality. As with the rest of Sigma&#8217;s Contemporary line \u2014 including the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/sigma-18-50mm-lens-npa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">18-50mm f2.8 lens<\/a> \u2014 this lens is made at Sigma&#8217;s factory in Japan. Both the lens body and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/when-to-use-a-lens-hood-to-improve-your-shots\/\">lens hood<\/a> are made entirely of metal. Compared to some of more expensive,  plastic-feeling lenses, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/sg202soe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sigma 20mm 2f Contemporary Lens<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Sigma_20mm_F2_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Sigma_20mm_F2_01.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Sigma_20mm_F2_01-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Sigma_20mm_F2_01-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A cool feature of this \u2014 and all the other lenses in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/l\/Sigma~Photography?sel=Lens-Series_Sigma-Contemporary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sigma&#8217;s Contemporary line<\/a> \u2014 is the included magnetic lens cap. I find myself fumbling around trying to attach traditional lens caps, especially when wearing gloves in the winter. This one pops on and off easily and fits correctly every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04994.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04994.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04994-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04994-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"focusing\">Focusing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This lens also has a very short close focus distance at just .72 feet (slightly over 8.5 inches). While the autofocus is as fast as you\u2019d expect, for really close-up shots, I prefer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/focus-modes-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">focus manually<\/a>. Fortunately, all the lenses in Sigma\u2019s Contemporary Line have manual focus switches as well as perfectly dampened manual focus rings. While this may not seem like much, it makes for a great shooting experience when compared with other lenses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04978.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04978.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04978-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC04978-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This brings me to another of my favorite features \u2014 the manual aperture ring. I\u2019m a nostalgic guy at heart and love old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/guide-to-film-photography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">film cameras<\/a>. Clicking though the aperture ring on the collar rather than spinning a little wheel on the camera body is oddly satisfying. It also adds an analog feel to an otherwise hyper-digital tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05149.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80099\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05149.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05149-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05149-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fast-aperture\">Fast Aperture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What I think really makes this lens stand out from the competition is it\u2019s fast, f2 aperture. Since many other lenses of this focal length were designed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/basic-landscape-photography-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landscape photography<\/a> in mind, the trade-off for that huge field of view is often a slow aperture. With this lens, you get the best of both worlds. You have a super wide field of view and a large enough aperture to get separation from the background. There are thirteen elements in eleven groups and an MTF chart nearly identical to Sigma\u2019s top-of-the-line <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/l\/Sigma~Photography?sel=Lens-Series_Sigma-Contemporary_Sigma-ART-Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Art Series lenses<\/a>. It&#8217;s no surprise this lens allows you to see the world through its stunning, almost dreamlike perspective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05091.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05091.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05091-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05091-825x465.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Cooper Naitove<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With its fast aperture, super wide field of view, manual aperture ring, and amazing build quality, the Sigma 20mm f2 Contemporary Lens is a welcome addition to their ever-expanding line.&nbsp; If you\u2019re looking for a wide prime with a small form factor and a fast aperture for either E or L mount cameras, this is definitely one to consider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"SG202SOE\"  class=\"west_sku_post\" data=\"SG202SOE\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"SG202L\"  class=\"west_sku_post\" data=\"SG202L\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"SGLH65603\"  class=\"west_sku_post\" data=\"SGLH65603\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to photography, I always reach for a telephoto lens.
