The new model seems skinnier and definitely weighs less. Whether I\u2019m lugging around gear or have my rig all set up, weight is always a huge component. To have this new lens lighter and more compact, I\u2019m able to save my back and forearms from overuse. Every travel creator can back me on that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-17.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-17-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Adorama<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I noticed the filter size stayed with an 82mm thread. This is a huge advantage and I\u2019m glad Sony kept this the same. I know it would\u2019ve been a pain to get all new step-down rings, filters, etc.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/brands\/Sony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sony<\/a> is always thinking of the smallest details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-5-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82833\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-5-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-5-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-5.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Adorama<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, let&#8217;s talk about the aperture ring. This appears to be a standard moving forward for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/l\/Photography\/Sony~Lenses?sel=Lens-Series_Sony-GM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GM lenses<\/a>. You can always go to full automatic and control the aperture internally, but sometimes it&#8217;s nice to have it locked in for specific purposes. Personally, I enjoy the mechanics of the ring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also noticed the \u201cSmooth and Tight\u201d slider on the side of the lens. This will especially come in handy when I\u2019m filming, or need to steadily zoom in or out. I don\u2019t typically use the 24-70mm for photos, but I use it nonstop for filming. During this session, I wanted to use it for both photos and filming so I met up with my buddy Justin to set up a dusk patrol <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/how-to-become-a-surf-photographer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surf session photoshoot<\/a>. We started late in the afternoon to see how the lens would handle harsh direct light, what the flares looked like, and recognize any ghosting or weird colors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-24.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82832\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-24.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Shortstache-Sony-24-70GM-II-Blog-Images-24-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Photo by Adorama<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The lens handled everything like a champ. I was glad to see the buttery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adorama.com\/alc\/5-tips-for-capturing-bokeh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bokeh<\/a> and sharpness in my images \u2014 no matter what direction I shot. After snapping some photos, I wanted to test out the high performance tracking from the new four motors that are in the lens, as opposed to the one motor from the previous version. I had Justin walk in and out of the light towards me to try and throw the focus off while also zooming in and out. The lens stayed focused the entire time. The shoot went flawlessly and I got nothing but stellar images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not one who is enthralling in learning the mechanics of how one lens works versus another. Although, I can sense the smallest of details when I\u2019m actually shooting. I made sure I paid attention to every little thing I was using, and I was impressed with the Sony 24-70mm GM II Lens across the board. This lens has solid glass and sweet results. If I was looking for just one versatile lens, this new Sony 24-70mm GM II Lens would be it. It\u2019s perfect for capturing both film and photos, and provides so much variety in how you capture. The Sony 24-70mm f\/2.8 GM II Lens is a solid build and great new addition to the Sony line up.
