Unfortunately, the constant addition of new tools and features can make navigating through them a heavy undertaking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">While it will take extensive practice as a photographer to become familiar with all the ins and outs of Photoshop, here are four Photoshop tools&#8211;some old, some new&#8211;that all too many photographers don\u2019t use nearly as much as they should. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">#1: High Pass Filter sharpening<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"height: 427px; width: 640px;\" src=\"\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/High%20Pass%20Filter.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">High Pass Filter sharpening is a relatively unknown filter used to sharpen contrast around detailed objects. Use the High Pass in conjunction Blend Mode, increasing the High Pass layer\u2019s opacity, to create a more subtle effect. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"width: 640px;\" src=\"\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-17%20at%203.02.29%20PM.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">#2: Perspective Warp <\/span><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">Perspective Warp is a very versatile tool that can completely turn a photograph on its head&#8211;literally. Especially useful for architectural or landscape photography, Perspective Warp transforms the parameters of a photo to give the viewer a dramatically different vantage point. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">The uses are varied, but more on the complex side. Here is an excellent video tutorial explaining the concept. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">#3: Luminance\/Lightness<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"width: 640px; height: 427px;\" src=\"\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/Glass%20Luminance.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">Luminance, which was recently renamed to Lightness in a recent update, is a great way to brighten up a photo without blaring out noise. More uniquely, it can also reduce noise in high ISO photos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">Use it the same way you would Hue or Saturation; access all three here: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"width: 640px;\" src=\"\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/Screen%20Shot%202016-01-17%20at%202.55.30%20PM.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">#4: Layer Mask <\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/alc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/Grass-Cinemagraph.gif\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">Layer Mask is a useful trick both for general touchups and more creative effects. Essentially, layer mask allows you to work with two or more layers, making on transparent so as to see through to the layer underneath.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-da3db10a-517f-c539-a06d-a7d1d56df0d8\">One fun way to use layer mask is by creating a Cinemagraph, in which you create a perpetually moving still photograph by making a short video clip one layer, and a still from the video the top layer.
