We purchased the Celestron Microscope as a birthday gift for an inquisitive youngster. It was his first microscope. The first microscope came in a box larger than necessary and when we opened it we found that the microscope had been previously opened and perhaps tested. Suspicious, we immediately checked the instrument and discovered that it was defective. Since we wanted the gift to be given at his birthday party, we arranged a return with a request for immediate replacement. The next day, the replacement was on our doorstep! The Celestron Microscope was a big hit and the best of the gifts that he received. He started using the scope with the included prepared slides. A whole new world has been opened; one that he now knows exists. in our tests, we found the light source to be of good quality, with even specimen lighting. The second light source that shines from above the stage is a big plus for opaque materials. The unit is solidly constructed. The magnification ranges will handle most of what he will be interested in viewing. Since the light source is powered by four AA batteries, the unit can be used in the field as well as at home. The price is very reasonable for this product quality.
