The threads stripped and the light is now useless as a boom. I suppose if you have a very light weight strobe on it it could work, but spend the extra money and buy the Manfrotto. A much better stand that has lasted me years.

Was better than I expected from some reviews I had read. Mine works well and does the hair/separation lighting I bought it for.

Great for overhead portrait lighting and for variations on the usual techniques. Very well made . Would prefer the bag to have just one large compartment.

I haven't used it on a shoot yet.. but did take some time to test at the house.. Product seems sturdy and is works as advertised.

For the price, this boom stand can't be beat. I've used it with speedlights, as well as an Elinchrom RX One (+ 28" Apollo softbox w/ grid) and it holds up really well. The only issues I've had is that the thumb screws to tighten seem a bit flimsy, though I haven't had one break yet. Also, the sandbag is a bit too snug to use water bottles for counterweight, but your experience may vary.

I recently acquired a 3rd speedlight and I've been shopping for a boom arm/stand so I can use the flash for a hair light. I came across this combo and figured I'd give it a try. I have 4 other flashpoint light stands and for the money, they can't be beat. Adorama shipped very quickly, and I've already used the stand/arm for a shoot. I used it to hold a Nikon SB600 and a Cheetah 24"Qbox...added some weight to the bag to offset the flash/softbox and everything worked great! I would not hesitate to purchase another of these if needed!

I use this as a tripod for an ip video camera. I like this because I van set the camera at all kinds of crazy angles to get the desired shot. This is not used with a standard cameraa but is could be used like that.

Solid construction. The pivot piece that connects the stand to the boom is metal. Looks like it would last a long time. Sturdier than I had expected for the price. The stand is air cushioned.

I've been looking for a boom stand for a while and came upon this Flashpoint Boom Stand for a very reasonable price. I wasn't expecting it to be the most solid piece of gear, but after receiving it and trying it out, I've been amazed at the quality of this stand. It includes everything you need, including the little brass adapter to attach your flash directly to the stand. I've used it with a beauty dish attached, and it has exceeded all my expectations. Well built, great price and the best bang for your buck!

I have just begun to explore the creative possibilities with the boom. So far I have used it in some macro shots for overhead lighting. I strongly recommend asking for Al if you call. HE is very helpful and knowledgeable.

There are certainly cheaper options available to you, but if you want the assurance of having your flash and modifier safe under normal circumstances it is worth spending a few more dollars on this boom stand. Rugged, sturdy, well built, manueverable but not necessarily lightweight, this boom stand with the weight bag will be a part of my lighting kit, both in home and on location, for some time to come! I consider it a great buy!

This stand is fairly sturdy for the price and is a great fit for overhead shooting with a speedlight and softbox. I plan on using it for portraits on location.

I've mainly used the stand to hold my Apollo 43" Softbox and it's worked very well. Using the included sandbag as counterweight, I've been able to position light directly overhead. Plus, it comes with its own carrying bag, which is a big plus in my book and is very compact when collapsed.

I recently purchased this to use with a speedlight. It seems well constructed, but on my THIRD use, the thumbscrew housing that tightens the legs stripped out. I wasn't using brute force to crank down on it, just normal pressure. Not happy.
