he other massive advantage is the internal and interchangeable Lithium Ion Polymer battery with exponentially more power than AA batteries of any type, while fitting into roughly the same amount of space. Packing an amazing 11.1 volts and 2000mAh, this battery can power your flash longer and with faster recycle than any shoe mount speedlight on the market. Full power recycle times are less than 1.5 seconds, even if you fire 5 full power shots in fast succession! One completely charged battery can deliver up to 650 of those full power shots. Even in ETTL mode, you can try to drain the battery, but the Zoom Li-on keeps on going strong .

The Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL Flash for Nikon represents a significant breakthrough in speedlight power technology with the introduction of full R2 Remote TTL connectivity and interaction with all Nikon strobe functions. From standard iTTL, to Exposure Compensation (FEC), FV Lock, High Speed Sync, and an automatically zooming flashhead, all the way to complete iTTL control connectivity with other Nikon flashes, group control, Slave and Master options, and advanced flash functions, the Zoom Li-on flash takes you as far as you want to go.

The R2 TTL Wireless Flash System is the advanced 2.4GHz radio remote that adds camera TTL dedicated custom functions to your multi flash experience. Easy to use buttons command a full range of functions like reliable channel triggering, group mode selectivity, HSS, with powerful signal strength and exceptional stability to your selected camera flash language. The LCD panel clearly display the status of all remote R2 compliant strobes so you always have control of group lighting setup. R2 wireless communication gives speed of light response to on camera or off camera R2 family devices for a spectacular advantage on the shoot in any environment.

The key component that makes this new flash stand apart from others is the proprietary TTL and HSS enabled 2.4GHz R2 Radio Remote System radio triggers transmits atop a Nikon body with the essential TTL pass-through and laser AF assist and works with the complete family of Flashpoint Speedlights, Monolights and Strobe lights with R2 TTL radio transceiver built right in.

All the R2 enabled family communicate seamlessly: the lithium powered Zoom Li-on Nikon, Canon and Sony TTL speedlights, the Zoom AA alkaline powered speedlight, the fantastic Streaklight 360 TTL barebulb strobes (each available in Nikon, Sony and Canon as well as manual), and the portable 600ws XPLOR600 TTL or manual monolights. Other strobes can be fired and controlled off camera while being attached to the R2 Radio Remote Receiver FPRRR2RN to grace remote link to earlier models.

The R2 system provides a full proprietary GR Group style interface allowing up to 5 Groups to be individually set to either TTL, Manual, or Off and, most importantly, TTL and Manual Groups can be conveniently mixed together as needed. The lithium battery powered units provide TTL, HSS (High Speed Sync) and even a HSS pre-sync timing adjustment for precision synchronization. PC cord sync input ports are provided for external device remote sync without control. R2-N receivers are compatible with Nikon CLS system speedlights like the Nikon SB-910, SB-900, or SB700.

Besides Nikon iTTL and manual control, there are 2 optical slave modes, and a stroboscopic mode as well. The metal shoe features a locking pin, so even if the foot is not tightened properly it will not accidentally fall off of the camera or mount. Remote power control using a Flashpoint R2 System Transmitter or R2 Family flash allows you to view and change your flash output as you shoot as well as trigger the flash and adjust other functions from more than 150 feet away, for extreme off camera work.

The simple layout and familiar controls make using this flash intuitive. The flashhead rotates 180 degrees in any direction and tilts over 90 degrees for any type of bounce or modifier use. The head zooms automatically or manually from 24-200mm, to ensure the necessary coverage without wasted spill. The built-in pull out wide angle diffuser spreads light evenly to 14mm for use with lenses wider than 24mm.

With a charge time of just 2.5 hours and enough juice to run you through even the most difficult shoots, (and extra batteries available,) this high powered, speedy recycling, compact and durable Lithium Ion battery powered iTTL flash is sure to become a pivotal part of your photography equipment lineup.

Exactly what I needed

As a professional wedding photographer, I wasn't sure what to expect from a ($) speedlight when I'm accustomed to shooting with SB910s and SB5000s. Yet, after reading the rest of the solid reviews, and considering my complete frustration with Nikon optical remote triggering and whimsical pocket wizards, I decided to take a chance. After shooting with three of these for the better part of a month, I haven't even taken the Nikon lights out of my bag. Pros: Excellent reliable RF functionality...

A good start but lots of issues for professionals

Like many of you I had high hopes that I could transition off of my manual flash & trigger setup in favor of a wireless flash system. I am a nikon shooter so my options for OEM flashes are fairly limited. So I bit the bullet and bought 7 of these flashes with the plan to integrate on-camera "control" of all my remote flashes. A little background - I am a professional wedding & commercial photographer and am very proficient in the use of off camera flash. I shoot with Nikon D4S cameras and sh...

Just Get It and You'll See

Great unit - had an "R1" sold by another company that wasn't so hot, so I was leery but went for it anyway because I really want and need the fast recycle and love the rechargeable battery. This unit is MONEY! Easy to set up, fast, reliable (so far) and well worth the cost. Two more in my future plans to take everything mobile> WINNING

Excellent Flash, but use caution

By

 -  Professional

I love this flash! It is powerful and does just as well as my Speedlite 600EX did, but with a rechargeable battery that lasts WAY longer than the AA batteries the speedlite required. This flash only has ONE downfall... the swivel head is TIGHT. You MUST hold the base to turn the top or you will wear out (loosen) the area where the flash tightens to the camera. I'm on my second one of these flashes because the first one did exactly that. Notice, still bought the same flash again. Just use caution and this flash will treat you well!

I would recommend it to others

By

 -  Semi-Pro

This flash was recommended to me by a friend who shoots professionally. Though I've only had it for a short time, I like what I see. It feels solid and has worked flawlessly so far. for the price, build, and operational function so far, I would recommend it to others.

Much nicer than expected!

Very surprised at the quality at this price point! Goes to show how much Nikon is gouging its customers on accessories! The lithium battery is great and wireless and radio options are really nice!!

Flashpoint Zoom Li-on works great.

By

 -  Professional

I just tested two Flashpoint Zoom Li-on and so far they worked great. I used them in manual, triggering them with a Pocket Wizard Plus2. I really like the Li-on battery as it lasts quite longer than AA batteries. I shot 350 shots at 1/2 power and the battery meter still read full. I would have had to replace the AA batteries in my Nikon SB-900 after 250 shots or else the recycle times would be too long.

Does what it says

By

 -  Hobbyist

This does what it says it does. It has a nice RPT feature that allows you to have it flash at very very short intervals. Looking forward to using it more and experimenting with it. It would be nice if it came with a real diffuser (not just the built-in version), but that is only an extra ($), so that is no big dea.

Well worth it

By

 -  Hobbyist

Bought this flash a couple of months ago and I am extremely happy with it. Quality and features are comparable Canon's 600EXll., but at a very favorable price. The ion battery gave out more flashes then AA batteries and did not heat up. Have to recommend this flash to anyone who needs a flash and not spend 2 or 3 times the amount for an on camera flash.

Speedlight System

By

 -  Semi-Pro

This speedlight brings my total to four zooms, a Streaklight 360 and an XPLOR 600. These lights all work with via the same trigger and all have built in receivers. I use them for real estate photography and could not be happier. I have found them to be easy to operate and dependable. I will buy more as needed. Thanks Adorama.

Satisfied customer!

By

 -  Hobbyist

I would highly recommend this product! I was told about it in my portrait photography class this past semester, and my mother got this flash for me for Christmas. As someone just getting started in photography, it's a great price and it works really well! I love it!

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Gurjeet B  My SB-910 fell off the light stand and broke. I needed a flash, so I ordered three. lol. What I really like about this flash is that it has built in receiver and also li-on battery. Two less things I need to worry about when shooting.
ANTONIO B  The reviews point to an above average quality speedlite. Also, it functions with TTL, (through the lens,) features.
Harold W  Already had the sony version. They work great! Everything is controlled from the camera position.
GWYNETTA R  does mag mod grip work with this flash / and or other flashpoint flashes?
TONY M  Mag Mods work with this or any other conventional speed light. Selens makes a comparable line for less, but not as many options. I bought into the Magmod system but didn't like the cost to get what I wanted; customer service wasn't great either. I ended up going with the Lastolite Strobo system; it also has magnetic, stackable modifier elements. The Magbeam is the only option I've yet to be able to duplicate.
Marilyn B  How to set your flash to not go to sleep after 90 seconds?
Brands@ A  Change custom function APO to off. APO stands for Auto Power Off.
WESLEY S  Use custom function 14 to modify the sleep timeout time. Page 12 in the manual
