Sony users rejoice!

This really cool. I have an a6300 and this works perfectly with it. Lets talk about recycle times. Unless you are on full power to 3/4 power this thing recycles almost instantly. I was really impressed with this considering it is using just a battery. For inside work this is perfect especially for kids. Outside depending on how much juice you need this will still work great, but a touch longer on the recycle time for full power. I am so happy to finally have an integrated lighting syst...

Error code e1 on a fairly new unit

By

 -  Professional

Error code e1 half way through a 20 person headshot shoot...9 people have a two light setup and 11 people have a 1 light set up. This most likely will cost me a repeat customer, plus what ever the repair cost will be. I wouldn't write a bad review if it had happened on a well used unit, but this head only has a handful of shoots under it's belt! Not happy! On up side the hss works flawless, and I love being able to shoot ove the sync speed.

Love this system

By

Switched to the Flashpoint Xplor 600 system from the Paul C.buff line. Couldn't be happier with it. Nothing against Paul C. Buff, it served me quite well the past couple of years but the flashpoint system has so many things I love about it.

By

These strobes are very consistent with exposure and color versus the previous strobes I have had.Very fast recycle times as well and I like the fact I can add optional ac adapter and use the 1200 watt remote head for overpowering the sun.I purchased 2 of these and use them with 3 FP r2's for a lightweight 5 light setup. Thanks

Folks, I have Profoto B2's....and I love them, but I bought a set of these for a second location...and wow, I just love them. Simple, dependable, and I LOVE that the transmitter I bought along with it will also fire the Flashpoint speedlight I also bought to test out. For this price, what can I say...it's brilliant!

Amazing system but...

By

This is an amazing system, but i'm experiencing a 4-5% miss rate on the triggers. That's with the Flashpoint XPLOR & Streaklight units. Is anyone experiencing this?

Questions about this item:

Yuna J  what is ttl? I am purchasing this as a gift and am having trouble figuring out which one I want
Abiel C  It means through the lens. Its pretty much a system that figures out how much flash output to produce. If you get the one without ttl, the photographer will have to figure out how much output to put. The ttl version can go both automatic and manual control.
MICHAEL T  TTL stands for "through the lens" and refers to letting the camera automatically decide how much flash power there will be. It's sort of an auto mode for flash that can be useful at events or other situations where the light is constantly changing. Some photographers love it, some never use it at all. While it's not the only use, if the person you're buying for doesn't shoot events, they are less likely to need or want tll.
Darryl L  TTL stands for Though The Lens metering. The in camera tell the flash when enough light from the flash to make an approximate exposure. The exposure is usually plus or minus of the correct exposure. Since the in camera meter is a reflective meter and based a neutral gray card it may need to be adjusted to get the exact exposure that the photographer is looking for in his/her image.
Brian C  TTL means "through the lens" which basically allows automatic measurement of power needed for the flash to go off for proper exposure. It's not needed for most portrait or stand still photography but may be helpful for varying or changing ambient light conditions. Personally I would buy one with the TTL feature over the one that does not have it.
Glenn H  TTL is a feature the allows the light meter in the camera to communicate with the flash. With the Fashpoint XPLOR 600 it can be done with a wireless remote transmitter. You need to choose betwen Nikon, Canon, or Sony.
AH A  It means that with the right transmitter the camera can tell the flash how much power to use. The other version of this flash has to be set manually. TTL can then be adjusted to have more or less power if the you think the camera has called for too much or too little light.
ANDREW R  TTL stands for Through The Lens. Basically it means that the flash will automatically adjust its power to give a proper exposure based on the camera's settings. It does this by firing a short pre-flash when the shutter is triggered, the trigger on the camera communicates the proper settings to the strobe and then it fires with the proper amount of power. Of course it all happens in the blink of an eye, but that's more or less how it works. Many photographers prefer ttl because it allows them to set their exposure and have the flashes just follow along. You can then adjust the flash output to increase or decrease exposure relative to your camera settings. It's a pretty handy system. All that being said, TTL always costs more than a manual version of the same strobe. This kit comes with the trigger that lets you remotely adjust the power of each strobe manually, and I've never found myself wishing I had spent a few extra hundred bucks for a convenience. I would enjoy having TTL functionality, but it's definitely a luxury and not a necessity in my opinion.
Marc B  Are the lights brand agnostic? i.e. if i get a transmitter for my an a7r ii and a transmitter for canon, will the lights receive from both?
Brands@ A  Yes, it will work no matter which R2 transmitter you use
Robert M  I purchased my lights and transmitter to work with the Canon system. I accidentally ordered one of the lights and transmitters for the Sony system. I was able to trigger the Sony light with the Canon transmitter. So I think the answer, partially is yes. My advice is to contact had Adoramas Flashpoint store to get the fully correct answer.
Shopper  The Sony A77 mkii uses a standard hotshoe vs the Sony one. Is the Sony version transmitter a standard hotshoe connection or the weird Sony one? I need to make sure since I plan to get the TTL one.
Andrew R  Fits the newer Sony shoe, not the older Sony/Minolta shoe.
