The Glyph Technologies ForteRAID 8 TB External RAID Array comes loaded with features that qualify this unit as a good match for those with serious production work in mind. It's an 8 TB warehouse that offers data protection and transfer speed that should fit most of your production needs.

Loaded with four SATA II 3.0 Gb/s drives, the unit moves information and data through its drives in various RAID modes - it offers RAID 0 (striping), RAID 1 (mirroring), RAID 3 (striping with a dedicated parity drive), RAID 5 (striping with distributed parity), RAID 10 (striping and mirroring) and Spanning mode. These modes provide speed, data protection, or both speed and data protection. If a drive fails when running in one of the fault-tolerant drive modes (RAID 5, 10), you can remove and replace it with a spare drive without losing any data. ForteRAID also allows for a "hot-spare" - an online spare drive present in the chassis, allowing for immediate rebuild without user intervention.

Transferring data with the eSATA, FireWire 400 or 800 ports, or USB 2.0 is quick and efficient. ForteRAID features an eSATA port, which enables 250 MB/s sustained transfer rate using a high-performance eSATA card. The included EC2 eSATA card provides general eSATA connectivity, up to 125 MB/s.

The unit is shipped with Glyph Manager, a software utility that lets you set the internal RAID modes (unlike external RAID switching on other arrays) and offers an user interface, which reports case temperature, fan speed, individual drives' health status and temperature, as well as any drive errors or rebuild failures. Glyph Manager monitors the health of the ForteRAID as a background task using S.M.A.R.T. commands.
