Battery failed 1 year after purchase.

Battery failed 1 year after purchase, goal zero would not replace it per warranty restrictions. It worked marvelously until that point. I wont be another goal zero product again.

Sherpa Failed Less Than 18-months After Purchase

I have purchased multiple Goal Zero products (Yeti 400, 4 Boulder 50s) and this Sherpa 50 in late 2015 / early 2016. I use the Yeti and Boulders on a regular basis for tailgating, camping, etc. These two products work phenomenally and I've never had an issue. However, I've had the Sherpa 50 with inverter since early 2016 and since then the unit has been nothing but problems. Initially I purchased the item to give an additional charge to my MacBook Air and iPhone when I was off the grid. The first time I used it, it only charged the MacBook Air about 1/2 way and I got about 1-2 charges off the unit. Needless to say I was disappointed in the underperforming charge of this product. I would make sure that I properly charged the unit and used the inverter properly. Still, I could not get more of a charge. This past August 2017, I went to use the unit and there was no charge in the unit. After trying to re-charge the unit (which I accomplished two-weeks prior with a full charge), the unit would not hold a charge. Disappointed.

Short life

Sherpa 50 works well in many ways. The huge disadvantage is the swift drop in life/capacity. First it dropped down to charging up to 80%, this spring 2017. After the summer only 40%. I think it ought be more robust in this sense.

Excellent Kit!

I use this product to charge my RC's at events. And I left it to charge at our booth at the end of the day and came back in the morning and the solar panel was soaking wet from the morning dew and the Sherpa 50 was Damp as well. but once the sun came up and came out it started charging again. what a excellent product!

Dont count on it

I bought the Serpa 50 and Nomad 13 panel a couple of years ago for an upcoming trip, that was canceled. I also bought 3 of the lantern lights to work with it. This went unused for a year or so and I took it out and plugged in to charge. It wouldn't hold a charge, even thought the indicator read 80% or full. Now it wont even power the lights with it plugged into house current. A fair amount of money spent, with absolutely nothing to show for it. Since all the plugs are proprietary, I can't even use the lights with another power source.

Great for QRP Ham Radio

I use the Sherpa 50 with my Yeasu 817 Ametuer radio in the field. It is easy to set up and use.

Love Sherpa 50!!!!

I use this guy at camping and backpacking. Very handy to use for many purposes for my tablet, camera, lighting, and cell. I couldn't live without it. Sherpa 100 is nice, but I don't need that much watts per night. 50 watts is plenty for me for what I use.

preppers delight

Gave the Sherpa 50 a few test loads and it ran great. I ran a fan and charged my phone to deplete the battery competley then charged it back up completely with only the solar panels. It did take the entire day and had to adjust panels as the sun moved thu the sky but all in all its worth the trouble and wieght of carrying.

Test Run

I purchased this several weeks ago before all the rain hit Texas, so I have not had time to test the photo cells. The sherpa is ready to go at a moments notice. Truthfully, I will not fully integrate the system until my first day of biking. Packs well, looks cool, now let's see it performs.

Sherpa 50 Solar Kit

The sherpa 50 size is just enough to carry on the airplane for traveling, while the solar panel fit in the luggage.

works beautifully

I bought this kit to take to rural Ghana (plenty of sun) to power (primarily) my WaterPik and my Sonicare toothbrush. (much more important than any computer or phone). It charged up in half the time listed and has lasted so long I forgot I was using a battery. I love it!

Failed due to moisture in tent after 2 expedition

I paired this unit with the 20 watt panel at base camp and it worked like a champ on a successfull K2 expedition (very rugged approach and variable weather). I just completed a successful Annapurna expedition and it died half way through. I always keep the Sherpa 50 out of the weather in my vestibule but condensation in the tent triggered one of the temperature sensors and shut it down. It has not recovered. I know this isn't water proof. I'm an electrical engineer and not affraid to take it apart but the 2nd temp sensor is elusive without a hardware diagram. It has been a great system and very rugged but I'm sad to lose something this expensive on it's second expedition.

Sherpa 50 is my love!

Sherpa 50 is plenty for what you need for backpacking and car camping. Mostly, I use for lantern, cell phone, tablet, and camera. This thing is a beat when it comes to juicing to electronics. Amazing how you can plug two things at once and it keeps juicing the electronics quickly.

Great Kit

I've used the Sherpa 50 Kit on our Expedition in Nepal this spring and it gave us the power we needed to charge our cell and satellite phones, cameras etc. Great kit that I can recommend for anyone that need that little extra power - Solar panel also worked well and hour estimates for charging we found more or less accruate.

Simple, no nonsense

I bought this about a month ago. So far it seems to work well. My only complaint is it doesn't natively support my laptop (Lenovo Yoga), and I'm not sure there is really an adapter for that. I would have to get an Inverter, but GZ has been out of stock for inverters for some time now... So on that side, it doesn't work for me. But, through the USB charging side- it works well. It's simple, and does what it says. It will take about 18% or so to charge an iphone 5s to full and does it at same speed as in the wall. It also charges up my Sony A7 through the usb charger relatively fast, and uses about 20%-25% charge to do that. I'll be putting it through its paces on a trip to the east. If you are thinking about purchasing this versus the Sherpa 100, I think this is a better value from the perspective of I can pick up 2 of these for the price of one Sherpa 100, and basically charge 2 devices at the same time, or give one to a friend (or my wife) on the trip so she can keep her devices charged as well. A Sherpa 100 is probably better if it's just me, but I always go in groups so multiples for redundancy and sharing is always a better value. Though really... GZ- please keep your inventory of Inverters up!!!! it's very frustrating to not be able to get something that would make the device universal and more useful.

Great concept, very poor execution

The Sherpa 50 is compact and will hold enough power to recharge my Toshiba Satellite S75, however, the only way I have been able to recharge the battery is through the car battery using an inverter or by plugging it into a wall socket. The solar panel that comes with it, the Nomad 13 has been completely worthless. On three different occasions, I have attempted to use the solar panel and it provided ZERO charge - I didn't think Goal Zero meant quite that. When I spoke with tech support, I was told that the solar panel will not work under a windshield as the windshield has a UV blocker in it. That makes sense, but unless you are in the back country, who has the time or ability to let the solar panel sit somewhere all day long in direct sunlight, waiting for a minimal amount of power? Using a $19 inverter, I can charge all of my devices using my car battery just as easily for a whole lot less. I realize there are still limitations to this technology but for nearly $400, I would expect a product that can somehow incorporate the energy of the sun while I am driving my camper around the country.

versatile !

What really nice about this product is that it's really small and portable. I did actually buy the Sherpa 50 kit, which includes the nomad 13, the Sherpa 50, and the nomad 13. It looks cool too! Also, one thing that I didn't know I even wanted is the amount of input power this thing can recive, meaning since the Sherpa receives DC power its actually capable of receiving higher speeds of charge compared to some other powerbanks. Like ones based off of USB , they usually receive a limit of 5volts , 4 watts. The Sherpa 50 for example, takes in 32 watts peak this is awesome when using solar, because the flow of the current is much larger and therefore causing it to recharge faster than say I would my cell phone because that's also limited to say 5-7 watts. That's wat makes using the Sherpa 50 awesome, you can take much more advantage with one of the banks to collect more power, faster. I still haven't had a chance to use the inverter on it, I am honestly a little afraid to because its a modified sine wave, I'm not too sure if it'll damages my batteries. Overall its an awesome product!

Sherpa 50 helps me in the field

This power supply helps me keep camera batteries charged, AA's for my flashes stay powered up and the hard drives spinning to store images. My 13.5 nomad panels provide it's recharge volt's and is a good investment for our team

Power for amateur radio Field Day

Field Day is an event held annually that gives amateur radio operators a chance to test their mettle in emergency situations. My Sherpa 50 powered my radio for the 24 hour event, exceeding my highest expectations. Our team contacted hundreds of other operators nationwide with juice to spare. I have also used this system on the Boston Harbor Island national park campgrounds, seven miles out to sea. With this system I keep my phone, tablet, lights, cameras, and radio rocking all weekend. You can't beat the simplicity, reliability, and versatility. I have two, and I will get a couple more. Yes, they are that good.

Great Product

I've been a fan of Goal Zero for the past few years, ever since I purchased a Sherpa 50 and two Nomad 20's for a recent trip to Nepal. The products worked flawlessly. I have since purchased Switch and Nomad 13 to add to my Goal Zero collection.

I just purchased this as a Christmas gift

I haven't used it yet, but it is a thing of beauty, and I strongly believe it will be as efficient as all my other Goal Zero products.

I got this product for Christmas I love it charged my phone my brother's phone and my dads phone and it was stil at 80% battry capacity at witch point I pluged it into a bolder 30 and it was charged to 100% in 1-2 hours. I took it on a ski trip and brought a nomad 7. it kept my phone charged on the Mountain but it was tricky to keep it at a functining temperature (30 degrees or higher). At the lodge I put my nomad in a window where it had direct sun light in 30 minits I got about 10% charge when I charged a laptop it drained the power pack fast in about 50 minutes to an hour it was at 60% and my laptop got about a 25-30% boost. I have no complaints and it was a grate gift.

Excellent portable power

I own the Sherpa 50 for charging my phone or lighting up my campsite. When hooked up to a couple Goal Zero led lanterns I can cook dinner after the sun sets. I also have a Yeti 1250 and 3 Boulder 30 solar panels. All of them are great products.
