I’ve had it for a week. Hasn’t failed yet. What can I say? It stores data, transfers data quickly and G-Tech is generally very reliable.

I am currently going through data recovery from this brand new drive. It is possible it is the connector that became disconnected, though I am not sure. It is not a very robust design, I would caution carrying this drive with you which defeats the purpose as it is supposed to be "mobile"

I needed a pair of large hard drives to clear space from my main drive. For the price, they couldn’t be beat. The drive itself uses the USB-C plug, and it comes with two cables—one that plugs int the newer USC-C computers, and the other for older USB-A, si you’re covered either way. These are set up for Macs, but It comes with a separate partition with software for Windows. If you’re on a Mac, you can use Disk Utility to remove the extra partition, and reclaim the space (and also do you don’t needlessly have two “drives” mounting on your desktop for no reason.

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. It's a recent purchase so for right now it is EXACTLY what I need and in some ways is addressing needs I hadn't anticipated for backing up considerable visual content. What is even better, however, is the support I got/get from the Adorama staffer who recommended this mobile external hard drive. I have learned a lot from him and have been able to make up for bad decisions I made at other retail stores. And I now will only purchase this kind of hardware material through him. My next Apple iMac purchase plus additional stuff will be through him. I learn more and get more and understand more dealing with him than my IT staff at Hunter College where I teach. His name is Daniel Gee. So: DESCRIBING MYSELF HERE: I am more than a hobbyist - journalist, professor, writer, blogger, freelance journalist, author - but technically I am less than a Semi-Pro. But I seem to be getting there.

Since my computer only has USB 2, this drive is perfect. It's already set up for a Mac. Just plug it in and it works.

That distinguishes this from all the other drives out there? On the surface, maybe not a lot, but the G-Drive is manufactured by Hitachi - easily the most reliable drive on the market. It's light, simple to use, relatively fast, and works very well with my Mac. I use this drive to transfer large chunks of data, and the relative cheapness (got it on sale) makes this a no-brainer.

Had to reformat it for use on Windows 7/8 using Easeus (free) software.

During the sale of these for $50 each, I bought two of them. Perfect for Mac. I recommend anyone who hasn't backed up their system to buy one of these and do it. Hard drives fail, that's a fact. One purchase will provide insurance and peace-of-mind. How can you beat that?

Great drive overall. Thinner and lighter than I expected, but very solid build. I liked it so much that I bought four to use as back up's in my safety deposit box.

this Apple Time Machine harddrive is very easy to use and requires very little computer knowledge. Just plug in the harddrive and Apple and the hd do everything else; as easy as pie.

This hard drive does not register as being hooked into the system when plugged into the computer. Thus it is impossible to download data to it. I spent several hours trying to get it to work but to no avail. I do not wish to go through a big hassle that usually occurs when trying to get a product repaired or replaced so I will just eat the loss on this and not buy from you guys in the future.

This is a great little disk drive. I had Time Machine backing up my MacBook Pro in less than 5 minutes out of the box. I got the first one for my son's iMac after he lost a college essay and had to re-write it. A month or so later, my grandson's iMac drive went belly up. They replaced the drive and, fortunately, recovered his data. I got him the second G-Drive and introduced him to the novel concept of backing up. While I was at it I got the third one for me so I no longer have to swap cables to back up my laptop on my iMac's external hard drive. I'm very pleased with the results.

I use the drive to back up a referenced Aperture Library. I have found that the the Mobile is not nearly as fast as the G-Drive Mini. I think I made a mistake in buying a drive with only a USB connection. An advantage is its light weight, good for travel.
