This is without a doubt a fabulous tripod but they are now a lot of really nice tripods out there that come in at about half the money. Just look at comparable features and read all the reviews and you should find several really good carbon fiber tripods for far less money. That being said I am extremely happy with this tripod.

The tripod has been perfect for the 1DX and 70-200 I have been using - especially with a Arca-Swiss Z1 dp ball-head, which sits on top of the tripod perfectly. It is also really tall so I don't really need to extend all 3 extendable sections, usually one and half would do on flat ground.

Replaces tired, old, short, heavy tripod. Incredible stability. Sets up quickly. Sure it costs a lot but then you won't need to buy another.

Gitzo's Systematic tripods are modular, with a flat centre disk that can be interchanged for center columns, levelling bases and other components. Because they have leg angle settings but no column as standard, Systematic tripods are all capable of near-groud level shooting. Leg tubes are in 6x carbon fibre with Gitzo's efficient G-locks.
The GT3542XLS is an extra-long 4-section tripod that reaches overhead level when fully open. It belongs to Gitzo Series 3 - a particularly flexible and adaptable size, ideal for use with lenses up to 400mm and under loads of up to 25kg.
