I've never liked the HP practice of putting an expiration date (relating to service life) on their ink & printhead products (including XL's) instead of just allowing their products to continue to function as designed regardless of age, but function until they actually run out of ink, or failure. Printer Products are reasonably priced, but consumable components or refills are inappropriately over-priced by volume.

I always try to have a spare set of inks on hand just in case and have always been happy to find that their are no problems with them working even if they sit for a while.

I tried ordering this from Best Buy, and they sent me expired cartridges. While ordering direct from HP was more expensive, they weren't expired and worked perfectly!

Brand new cartridges placed in printer and immediately show 75% full with zero usage. I paid good money for this and 25% is gone without printing a page. I will avoid buying HP printers in future

HP ink cartridges always perform as expected. Having tried a generic refilled cartridge, I returned to genuine HP cartridges to ensure my printer is able to do its job and I can do mine.

Ink doesn't last, drys out after time. Can't print in black when one of the color cartridges run out. Dumped unit and purchased a laser printer.
