Very nice, small recorder
I have a client who was having her 90th birthday and I was looking for the 'perfect' gift, enter-the Olympus voice recorder :) Her handwriting is null due to a stroke but with this recorder she's able to keep track of her thoughts. The design is simple to use and the large buttons were perfect for her.

Probably your best choice
This thing should win a design award. It is thin so it fits in your pocket, and it is wider than others so it is stable in your hand. Looks prettier than the others too. I use it as a notepad. I've used a bunch of these kinds of things from cassette recorders through several mini cassettes to this.
