I use this at outdoor shooting ranges to spot me my .308 cal rifle and .223 AR-15. This is the third spotting scope I tried. 1st was a low end Outdoor Adventurer, 2nd a low end Bushnell and then this one. The Leupold is better but not really sure if it is worth 4x the price. The max distance I used it was 200 yds. to spot .223 holes in a red and black paper target. I was barely able to see the holes. I suspect this is probably the max distance for this application. I am not sure if the kit is worth the extra money over just the scope alone. The tripod is well suited to go directly to the trash can. Because the scope is front heavy the tripod is always on the verge of tipping so don't suggest placing it near the end of the bench. I am waiting for it to break. Since I am a professional photographer I might just end up using my Manfrotto tripod. I am thinking to get a Sinclair bench mount stand. I advise that you go to the range an look through other shooter's scopes and see which ones you like. I would also suggest looking though a high end scope to put it all in perspective. Lastly I expected this scope not to me made in China. To my disappointment it was made in china. The eye cup is cheap and does not hold into position.
