This lens is a stud. Visually impressive to behold, and the images match all my expectations. My impression is that this lens has been kicked to the curb because of the 17-55. My 17-55 wasn't the sharpest. This lens never failed me and was the perfect wedding lens even on a cropped body. Only doing large group formals will you have a problem.

The 28-70mm EDIF AF-S D and 80-200mm EDIF AF-S VR are two of my main professional lenses. Very sharp, very dependable, fast accurate focusing.

This lens is a joy to use. I use it with my F100 and the combination makes a perfect duo for street photography. It is very very fast! And extremely well made.

Many photographers tend to leave their "normal" lenses in the studio, opting for wide or tele perspectives while out doors, but this version of Nikon's "Normal" zoom offers enough range to be the "standard" lens on your camera in almost any situation (especially portrait or wedding shoots!). The sharpness is extreme, beautiful bokeh, and at 2.8, it's a versatile lens even in low light. The silent wave technology offers fast, quite focusing, and the lens balances beautifully on a D2x. Obviously, this is a pricey lens but, if the type of shooting you do demands this type of speed and clarity, it's well worth the investment.

I own 2 of this lenses and use them to generate $350.000.00 a year in a studio income. They are my main lenses and extremely fast and sharp.

Nice lens... a bit heavy for casual use.

This is a pro series lens. The drawbacks are high cost and weight. In this case, the cost and weight are put to good use in a constant f/2.8 max lens that is built like a tank. The cropped image of a digital camera turns it into a normal to telephoto lens. Great for portraits. A 12-24mm lens would be a good partner for this lens if wide angle is needed.
