Best of the Bunch
Although Monopods are the rage these days, I wanted a no nonsense lighting kit that I could run all day without worrying about frying lamp bulbs, flash durations and overheated capacitors. Norman has been producing rugged lighting units since I can remember so I went with them. The LH-2000 are all metal unlike the cheaper LH-2400 which are all plastic. These units are relatively light too, so unless you suffer from severe Arthritis, or are on a budget these lamps are the way to go. The lamps are very compact and can easily fit on boom stands and other areas where size and weight can become a problem. Norman bulbs although very expensive, are known for the longetivity no need to worry about replacements. However I would definately purchase the protective case for storage and travel. The lighting is very good, consistent and color corrected. You can use them with reflector or without and still get good results. My only beef is with the dissapointing quality assurance. I had problems trying to fit some of the accessories, because the holes on the lamp-frame and the plug on the assessory did not match up exactly. This problem occured wiht the blower-fan and with the 5" and 10" refelectors. I could have sent the units back to Norman, but luckilly there was a work-around. With a small screw driver I very carefully streched the holes on the lamp head, so that they matched up with the plug on the accessory. This problem is what kept me from giving these 4 stars.
