I bought this flash to use with my "Photek Softligher II" umbrella to shoot Masquerade Ball portraits, Studio Portraits and future events. It was very reliable and it gave me great light through the umbrella reflector with a diffuser attached. I used the slave function along with another shoot through umbrella set up with a Olympus FL-50R. The FL-50R was connected to a PocketWizard Radio Popper. The set up worked great! This is an affordable solution to anyone on a budget. I am contemplating buying another Starflash unit. Possibly the 350 or another 650. Adorama had this in stock and shipped it as quick as I needed it.

I have had mine for over four years with no issues whatsoever. It is a powerful and completely reliable strobe. I typically trigger with sync old, optical and yougnu triggers. Contrary to the first reviewer, if you turn the recharge alarm ff they are the quietest strobes I have, comparing them with photogenics and alien bees. The only drawbacks are weight, it is built like a tank and the recycle time is the slightest bit slower than my other strobes.

I use this strobe almost exclusively in the studio. I have had it several years and it has been problem free. It is much quieter and the "pop" is less harsh than my AB or Photogenic strobes.

If I had it to do over again, I would purchase White Lightnings. But since I can't afford all new photography lights, I'm stuck with the Photoflex Starflash units that I bought several years ago. Two 650s and a 300. On all three strobes, the mono synch connection started going bad just weeks after purchase, and now can't be used as a main light at all. I've been using them as slaves just fine, firing off of my Canon Speedlight 580EXII, but I'd prefer to use them as they were designed. Can't use synch cord or my wireless triggers because of this. Also, one of the lights has had a buzzing sound when in use from day 1. I sent it in to be repaired when I first got them, but it came back and the buzzing was still there. These lights are flimsy.

This is a solid Strobe for the money. Enough Power for variety of lighting scenarios. The recycling time gets a bit longer on the full setting, so just don't lose the moment with your subject....or your patience. Otherwise a perfect monoblock. Photoflex is a great brand for studio photography - they have good product line and great prices. They also have an excellent customer service - if you ever need replacement parts or etc. they respond very quickly.
