Enjoy what you see!

I bought the item earlier this year in order to play DVDs from Russia (Zone 5). Primarily I have been struck by the quality of the screen image; I am not a natural with technology but adjusting screen widths etc. is straightforward. The battery life between charges seems adequate - tiring sitting through 4 hours of anything I imagine!

closed captions

closed captions are available if the dvd itself has the captions, you can use the button on the remote to put the words on the screen. choose subtitle. the best way however is to look at the menu of the disc itself because the words then are not in the way of the picture and are easier to read. and then you can choose the language too. i am really enjoying this player and especially like the nonreflective screen so the lamp has no effect on the picture, the sound is full, the music sounds great, it is a quiet little machine that can move from one bedroom to another with ease.

not great

It does what it's supposed to do, big complaints would be battery life isn't close to what it's supposed to be and the A/C adapter cord is ridiculously short. I've owned Sony portable dvd players in the past w/ good results (they are for my kids, so they take a pounding)....hopefully this one holds up as well. In comparison to the older models, construction seems cheaper.
