Best monitor for XboxSeriesX to maximize 4k@120fps

I bought the Samsung Odyssey G70A with an Xbox Series X so I could take advantage of playing 4k resolution while getting 120FPS. Since the Xbox series X comes with HDMI 2.1. The monitor is amazing. Going from 60 FPS on Xbox one X to 120FPS on the new Series X accompanied with this monitor is pure heaven, and is clearly seem amd felt throughout my gaming experience! The monitor is capable of more.......144hz I belive, for those PC lovers out there. However,, the Xbox Series X caps at 120hz or 120 FPS. I highly recommend! You get what you pay for and I purchased this monitor and save almost $130 at the time.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!

Very disappointed. I bought this through Amazon and the description left out lots of information. Not what I expected. Do your research if you are looking for good quality. This monitor is too outdated for me. It was only released a few year ago so I just expected more. I'm picky so most will not understand the frustration. Cannot run 4k higher than 60fps; you have to sacrifice using free sync and wide gaming options as well as high FPS to get good picture quality. Dolby Vision is not supported, no internal speakers, and the ports are outdated... HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2, not sure about the USB but I doubt it's a 3.0 and it has one port per connection. Unfortunately I cannot find what I want under 500$ this is what I have to settle for.

Trash

Monitor goes black randomly. More so while using 4K. Does not always wake from sleep. Usually have to restart PC. Running latest firmware and verified this is not the graphics card, cable, or port on the monitor. HDMI and Display Port both have this issue. Xbox runs fine, PC does not due to higher demand. Monitor is not covered under warranty anymore so I am screwed.

Great, but doesn't have a C-type connection!

I really like the screen and the lights in the back and in the front. I love the 180 degree rotation too. However it's really a bummer that doesn't have a C-type port for connecting to my laptop. My laptop doesn't have an HDMI port and also HDMI cannot charge the laptop while connected, so I find it really frustrating that a new monitor that is so expensive would not have a C-type connection!

Had Higher Expectations

Like a lot of the other reviews my montiors only lasted a few months and had the same vertical dotted red pixel line on the screen and the repair/warranty process is a complete joke. Especially considering the monitors price point. Samsung customer service is also completely horrible.

ODYSSEY G70a is the best monit

This monitor allows me to play on 4k graphics, 1440p, or 1080. I have the new Xbox Series X. I'm playing in 4k and still am getting 120fps, since I have an HDMI 2.1 cable and hookup. It's amazing. The picture and quality are amazing and the lights on the monitor are a nice accessory. It is well worth the price. You pay for quality and quality is what this product is.

Ok Monitor / Popping...

Bought this monitor last August. Its huge and amazing... 1 Flaw so far. The firmware isn't perfect yet and the POPPPING... ITs the more annoying thing to date, started noticing it shortly after I replaced some audio components back in November. Think it was the audio sound bar I used with my computer, turns out i just sent it in for no reason ..

Defective Units

I am not sure why Samsung will not say these monitors are defective. I have had 2 monitors now with within 4 months have Pixilated line across the entire screen. The first one was within return window, but the second one wasnt. Now they are sending a tech out to look at it and replace it. I am sure the replacement may have the same issue since I see a lot of user complaining about this same issue.

decent but not worth it

very cool monitor but not worth the price. This monitor is awesome, but its a waste of money. I say this because hardly any games will support 32:9 aspect ratio and its basically a workspace hell with the curve and small height. Not saying this is a bad monitor , because it is not but ill be replacing it for a more traditional monitor going forward. My advice would be to be to buy the new LG 48 inch or possible one of the new Samsungs that are not such a wide screen set up. ( unless you just want to play games in half the screen or use it for utility . anyways good monitor but practical application is not worth it in this age of software.

Would be one of the best, if not for my issue.

I bought this less than a year ago, April 2022, and it was spectacular until it wasn't. at first it started with power issue where the monitor would randomly black screen now, it's gotten progressively worse with certain program causing the monitor to have a weird color fade until the screen is black and unresponsive. the only way to get it back to being responsive is to disconnect and reconnect the plug cable from the monitor. I've had a certified Samsung service technician come to replace the panel and motherboard of the monitor and to no avail it remains with the issue. this was supposed to be a graduation gift from my parents and I'm disappointed because I've held Samsung to a higher regard. I've had many monitor in the past some as cheap as 60 to some as expensive as 500 and never an issue with any of them to spend this much on a monitor and have these kinds of issues is just a tad bit absurd.

Poor quality. Don't expect it to last.

Total junk. Didn't even last 2 year before it started having T-con issues. Of course the warranty is only good for a year. Good luck getting any help from Samsung to get parts to fix it if it's over a year old.

Beautiful and useful but with one minor glitch.

I owned and used this device in my home office for work-related activities for over six months. I do wish it had its own speakers, but I can imagine that gamers (which I am not) require various speaker set-ups, so I am fine without them (I use BT speakers connected to my laptop anyway). Approximately three months into ownership, I had an issue where white vertical lines began to appear at the bottom of the screen. Eventually, they would fill the entire screen and make it unusable. Because I was still in a warranty period when it occurred, Samsung was good enough to send a repair team to my house and they replaced the electronics and the screen has been performing flawlessly ever since.

Great until you need a warranty.

Great until it doesn't work. And then instead of having the original 3 year warranty, samsung cut it down to a year and now you are left with a flashing mess of a monitor that you paid $2k for...

Awesome display and versatility

Bought the 28" G70A this past black Friday and will say I have been nothing but impressed with the product presented to me. I use the monitor for an Xbox series X and my school laptop and am always pleased with its performance on both ends. The stand is very sturdy and apart from slight tweaking to its color calibration as many other reviews have, this monitor will serve you well.

Perfect gaming monitor!

I'm thrilled with my purchase. The picture looks SO MUCH better than my other monitor did (and I thought my old one was nice lol!), crystal clear and functions well for gaming. Came well packaged, with no issues, no broken pixels. Love the adjustable height and tilt, it saves me from neck pain! I got the 27 inch, and that's about the max size I'd get for pc gaming- at only an arms length away, you'll miss things if the screen is too large. This really is perfection, and I think it's a great choice for the price (worth more, IMO). If you're on the fence, just jump and order it!

Great picture

I upgraded from two 27" curved FHD displays to this. For Windows 10, I ran it in PBP mode and Windows 11 I run it as one giant display. While there is not much support for 32:9 ratio the stuff that does is awesome. For everything else still in 16:9 territory the "wideness" of this display will make that stuff look 4:3 on the screen. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I wish this display could have a 240Hz refresh. Sure, they offer one but its the more aggressive curve that I do not want. The 1800rr curve is perfect for my desk. One more thing, this bad boy is a radiator. If you game for long periods of time, or like me, work for long periods of time on this display it will get very warm so plan on having some open air around it.

Amazing colors, Bad Quality Control

I hooked this up upon receiving it and almost dead center is a cluster of dead pixels. It appears to be about four of them. Sitting a foot back it's hard to tell and it looks like only one, but once you zoom in with a phone camera is easier to seer the cluster in the grid. Absolutely unacceptable with a monitor in this price range. Also, it has been somewhat of a nightmare getting the displayport video to post again when the computer goes idle and the screen transistions into standby mode. This can be fixed probably through a proper firmware update. I have a secondary 2K res monitor as my secondary, and coming out of sleep has even caused the image to flicker like crazy at times until the monitor is fully powered down. Again, I feel like updates to firmware can address this issue. Samsung Support has helped me in the past (albeit slow turnaround time), but they are taking a very long time to assist with getting the ball rolling on replacement approval. If the case management department properly addresses the dead pixels cluster issue with a proper replacement sent I will update my review to reflect that.

Lack of support and design flaws

I bought this through Amazon brand new and it lasted less than a month. The screen, out of nowhere went dim to where you could barely make out anything. I manage a call center this happened during a conference call with my team. All of a sudden, I couldn't see anyone's faces or see what they were typing. I tried rebooting, resetting and nothing worked also I turned to various forums only to find that others were having the same issue. Here's what really upset me, folks have been posting issues around this problem and Samsung failed to respond on EVER website I researched. Goodbye Samsung and good riddance. I gave you a second chance so shame on me I suppose. Sure glad LG is coming out with a new monitor next month.

Gaming Monitors are holding back gamers

Anyone who thinks this monitor is good for anything beyond productivity with the picture by picture mode has not experienced true HDR game play. This thing is dull, washed, and completely unplayable in HDR. I tried moving my PC and PS5 from an OLED TV to it and after 2 days of tinkering, configuring, and a metric F ton of cursing, it ended up on my office desk for spreadsheets. It's perfect for that 2 in 1 monitor vibe but for gaming.. NO.. Never again. Everything in this house will be OLED or better from now on. I kept the monitor because it's great for spreadsheets and stocks but, literally that's it.

Awesome Monitor!

My husband purchased this monitor for me for Christmas and I couldn't be happier with it, the graphics are incredible and the picture is so clear! I am happy to say that there is no glare from sunlight what so ever, I was using a TV for a monitor before getting this one and when the sun came up, I couldn't see anything, but this monitor never has any glare. I love that it has so many options for the graphics, my old TV only had 720p but this one can be set to anything between 500 and 2160, I just love it!

Bad QA and Support

I bought this item about two weeks ago from Amazon. It was delivered and it had a defective display port connection that caused it to constantly disconnect and reconnect about every 30 minutes. Changed display port cables, changed display port connection on graphics card (RTX 4080), updated firmware, updated drivers and performed factory reset. Nothing helped. Contacted Samsung support for troubleshooting and they were unable to help. They suggested I start a repair claim. So I go to do that and Samsung wants to charge about $200 to perform a repair on this monitor when it is brand new and still under warranty. Monitor is great but leaving a 1 star review for the frustration of poor Samsung QA and terrible Samsung support experience.

First time Samsung let me down.

Stupidly I failed to see it only has 1920 x 1080 resolution. But the super annoying thing is that some options in the settings menu can not be chosen. Like the option to turn off the annoying blinking power light when the monitor is in standby. Why have an option in the menu if we cant use it?!

I just bought this product on Black Friday of 2022. It is an amazing looking product but it is way to fragile and seems cheaply put together. I had it for about two weeks until I started having problems. If I slightly bumped into my desk with my chair the entire monitor either turns off and comes back on or I get horizontal lines going across the entire screen. Even playing games and moving my desk in the slightest it would do the same thing. Also I double checked loose connections and went through settings and made sure I had the latest drivers, but sadly it is definitely an internal problem.

All-in Gaming

Had this Odyssey G9 (MFD. June '22) for over a month now (since 12/5/22). First 3 days it's shape is very weird. After a week settled in and quite likable. Got all the settings dialed in, took about 4 days of play. No immediate need for software updates (will do, eventually). Nvidia G-Sync works very well. Windows 10 HDR setting degrades image quality. No dead pixels. No major dimming issues. The factory stand is rather weak, monitor shakes if table shakes (don't want to drill holes in the wall). Sometimes when Window 10 wakes up from sleep mode the monitor won't wake up to DP signal (must reboot the PC). RTX3060ti running 3 monitors via display port - computer startup doesn't like the Samsung. Must turn off during boot up, then turn on and all is well. Playing a video that occupies center screen with big black bars on both sides - when the video darkens the black bars are slow to darken and follow, tends to overdarken then slowly come back (tries to sync, but imperfectly). The big monitor is very convenient for multitasking with multiple windows open. Of course, this thing really shines when playing videogames at 5120x1440. Peripheral vision gets engaged and no black bar in the middle like two monitors running. Some games can't run this resolution and I have one that won't even startup. Overall, his things a keeper.

Update

By BedBug8

I have written a review of this monitor before. Now quite a while later I've purchased another one to see if there's been any improvements since last time I owned a HG90. I had issues with the backlighting in gaming mode + issues with the backlighting zones beforehand. The difference between the previous monitor I had and the new one i recieved today is night and day, so much so that I doubt it's just firmware upgrades that are the difference. I recommend disabling the backlight zones in SDR...
