This is a great little lens. I use it often as my walk around street and low light lens even though I own the 1.2 version. This is much smaller and lighter and super sharp. Just not weather resistant.

Sharp little lens!

This is a great focal length for general photography. Great for environmental and street photography. The f1.8 aperture is a bonus allowing more light and softening the background. I really like the focus clutch. It makes manual adjustments a breeze.

You can leave it on your camera for your general photography needs.

Excellent low light performance in a small compact and slick lens. This is the ultimate companion for the E-M5 series. For street photography or all purpose. With an equivalent 35mm view this lens is meant to be all the time on your E-M5.

Ultimate all purpose low light lens

Years ago when I first bought my original EPL-1 I paired it with the m. Zuiko 17mm ?2.8 and I loved it. The 17mm ?2.8 wasn't the sharpest lens of the block, but it didn't need to be. The focal length was perfect for street and the size made it easy to pocket. Those two attributes continue with what I consider to be the modern incarnation of that lens, the 17mm ?1.8. I absolutely love this lens. The build, the optics, the size, the weight, everything. The focal length of 17mm on a m4/3 body is just about perfect. The full frame equivalent of 34mm makes it an extremely versatile lens for a variety of photographic scenarios that I put myself into on a regular basis. I paired my copy with the LH-48B lens hood. I love the metal hood on the metal body, it just feels right. That's the thing about this lens, it just feels right. These days I shoot on an OM-D E-M10 Mark III, it's a smaller OM-D body and this lens is a perfect fit. There's just something about this combination that begs to be used, no, it demands that you use it. It has a feel, a potential that just seems to emanate. I purchased my copy in the Olympus Travel Lens Kit that ships with the m. Zuiko 14-150mm ?4-5.6 Mark II. That's a great lens too, worth of praise in its own right, but the combination together makes the the whole greater than the sum of its parts. At the end of the day, a lot of people may say that a 50mm equivalent is the classic focal length for street. I say that depends on the camera system. For Micro Four Thirds, there is no better classic focal length than 17mm. It just makes an OM-D feel, for lack of a better word, complete.

A Classic.

I really like to travel with my E-M1 II (and now III, if I ever get to travel again) and I love my M.Zuiko PRO lenses because they are so sharp ... and weathersealed. But they are also somewhat big and heavy for just everyday sightseeing shooting. That's where THIS little guy comes in -- at 17mm, it's perfect for street and landscape shooting, at f/1.8 it's perfect for indoor museum and restaurant shots, and it's short (and light) enough to make the camera feel travel-sized, as opposed to something you need to constantly keep from protruding into people and objects as you move. I recommend the metal lens hood to travel with this, because it not only protects the optics well but gives the whole kit a vintage vibe. It's a good, sharp-enough lens which kind of acts as a vacation from the larger, more "serious" PRO lenses. This one is just more fun ... as long as it's not raining, snowing, or blowing dust. But weathersealing gaskets would make it bigger and heavier, so that's the trade-off.

The Perfect Travel Lens for Dry Days & Nights

This lens fills the gap I had in low light.  Small and unobtrusive yet just wide enough for streets and gatherings

As long as I?ve had my EM5Mark2 I?ve heard what a great lens this is. I just have to echo many of the great comments that I have read about this lens, but when it comes down to it, I just really love the small and solid feel of it on my camera, fulfilling the purpose of a small, easy to carry, top quality camera system. Compact, sharp, fun to use.

Excellent!

Purchased used, but like new, from Adorama and now regret buying used. My copy of the lens produces poor images—very soft out of focus not too far from center in all directions, especially bottom—have to wonder if it is first quality. I waited too long to do any critical viewing of the images—if I would have been more attentive earlier, I would have sent it back. I suppose I now have a $ paper weight.

Lens came in perfect condition. Works like it should and produces excellent results. I use it on the X5s camera for my Inspire 2 drone and it's a great way to get a more professional feel to your images.

This amazing little lens is so nice I've actually bought it twice. It takes outstanding portraits in low-light and it's compact size makes it ideal for travel, hiking, and landscape photography. I've also had excellent results shooting astrophotography. I sold my first lens when I upgraded to the OMD EM1 Mark II, and missed it so much that I bought it again and I'm so glad I did.

Excellent for portraits, indoors, and landscape

I take a lot of spur-of-the-moment, indoor shots of grandkids, family, friends, dishes we cook, etc. This has replaced my 14-42 EZ as the lens that stays on my camera. It's speed and bokeh facility makes for a delightful indoor lens.

Great indoor lens

I love the Olympus 17mm lens. It currently sits on my Panasonic GX8 for grab shots. The photos are very sharp. It's worth the money especially if you can catch one on sale.

Great lens!

Great walk-around lens when I'm looking to keep the camera portable. Photos are sharp and the F1.8 aperture really helps for low-light photography. Excellent build quality too. I'll continue to bring this lens with me wherever I go.

Such a small lightweight lens delivers sharp contrasty shots. Any problems that some have said they have found are easily corrected in post processing. I would recommend this lens to anyone in need of a small, slightly wide angle and lightweight lens.

Sharp lens that is great for street and low light

This lens is the one that is on my camera 90% of the time. It is great for street photography, event, landscape, etc... It is, however, not the sharpest lens.

Great lens but not super sharp

This lens does not stand out for its magnificent side or optical characteristics. He is small, handsome, looks like a little brother 75 1.8. It's an objective for shooting people, I think. This is street photography.

It's my favorite lens for my EM5 mark ii. I leave it on my camera all the time, especially to travel. It is sharp and lightweight. It's great for landscape, street photography, and even for portraits. It makes nice bokeh too.
