The DF-483 flash was sent to me by Vivitar because I've been having some compatibility issues using the 583 on my Nikon. The brightness would have to be jacked up to 3.0 each time the 583 was turned on to get results worth keeping. The default setting was not adjustable and made it somewhat of a pain although I feel the 583 is the better made flash. This DF-483 has only been tested in my home so far but seems to be a much better match for my Nikon D3000. It will be used mostly in night clubs and lounges taking pictures of music bands under low/colored light. I will also use it to photograph family members. I want to thank Vivitar for their above average, friendly customer service and especially Thomas the phone tech.
