About WD 500GB My Passport Edge USB 3.0 Hard Drive for Mac
The WD 500GB My Passport Edge USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive for Mac is an external portable hard drive that features a 500GB capacity, USB 3.0 connectivity and an all aluminum enclosure that mimics the design of Mac computers. It also features compatibility with Apple's Time Machine backup software, password protection and hardware encryption. It is USB powered, so no external adapter or unsightly wires are needed.
Although it is formatted for use with Mac computers right from the box, it can be reformatted to work with Windows PCs. The fast 5.0 Gbps transfer speed of USB 3.0 is attractive, but the unit is also compatible with older 2.0 protocols, so you can use the drive immediately and move up to USB 3.0 when ready. The drive includes WD Drive Utilities which lets you set drive timers, run diagnostics and more.
