ANY parabolic reflector is going to work best when you have what is effectively a point source of light at the focus of the parabola. Studio strobes with no reflectors work best. Speedlights (unless they can go barebulb) will work poorly. I've got this reflector, and yes I've tried it. Using the flash zoomed all the in PLUS a wide angle attachment sort of worked, it mostly didn't. The focus point of the parabola is actually around 2/3rds up the shaft, which means most speedlights won't have much beam spread

The 7' Silver Parabolic Umbrella offers maximum light reflection for use either indoors or outdoors. Frames are constructed using a fiberglass composite offering added strength and durability over standard steel or aluminum frames. The custom designed center shaft has been engineered to two times its normal thickness.
