Good lens! meh bundle

This is a good lens for my APS-C camera. The constant f/2.8 makes it easier to get exactly the shot you want, and the focusing ring is easy to use when you want to go full manual control. I'm not really a good enough photographer yet to comment on overall image quality, though the pictures I've taken so far do seem like a good upgrade over the kit lens. The extras that came in the bundle were nothing spectacular, but I can't really complain about them since they were free. The corel software is chock full of pushy up-selling- I uninstalled it as soon as I opened it for the first time and saw all the nonsense.

WORKS FOR ME!

So...I have had a Canon 7D2 for several years that I use all the time with a 100-400ii lens and a 35isf2. I also have a 5D4. I use the 7D2 mostly for wildlife (birds mostly. I really don't like taking two cameras and lots of lenses when I am traveling or out and about. Generally if I'm on a wildlife mission it is with the 7D2, 100-400, and the 35. If I am doing a landscape, people project it is mostly the 5D4. I have several general purpose L lens that I have used and they are fantastic on the 5D4, but I have never been satisfied with the general purpose L's on the 7D2. I always wanted to try the 17-55 as a companion to the 100-400 on some travels, but one, it was expensive for what you get and two, seems like a waste of money with the other L's that I have. Anyway, to make a short story long, canon had a great refurb sale this year (too good to pass up) so I bought the 17-55 refurbished (many of my other lens and cameras are canon refurbished too and they have been excellent). With canons return policy and one year warranty you really can't go wrong. It arrived like all canon refurbs do. In a generic canon box, without the lens box, but looking brand new, with the new style lens cap. Examined it in great detail and saw not a single flaw. Not a spec of dust in the glass. The zoom was tight and I could immediately get a feel for the slight zoom barrel retention mechanism that many people say stops working correctly after a while allow for lens creep. Then put it on my 7D2 and started taking my usual pictures that help me evaluate a lens. I made a -2 wide adjustment and then a +3 tele adjustment after about a couple hundred pics and it seemed to get it where I wanted it. There seems to be a bit of inconsistency at f2.8 (similar too but not as bad as the canon 50mm 1.4), but the images seem reasonably sharp and had nice color and contrast. IS works nicely and is quiet. But more importantly I just like the feel and look of the image on this camera as opposed to the 16-35L or the 24-70L. I've had it for a week now and I've had time to learn its quirks (okay, maybe its my quirks) and I really like it with the 7D2. Landscape images at F8 are quite nice. People images at f2.8 can be quite nice, but you do get misses and when it misses, it misses! No doubt when I venture out on a primary wildlife outing I will take the 17-55 as my companion lens to my 100-400ii. Giving it 4 stars as it looks great, works good, and was priced very well. Knocked off a star for the occasional inconsistent focus. One week does not give me enough time to make judgements on zoom creep, the accrual of lens dust, durability, etc. but for what I see and hold I am glad I made the purchase. Yeah, it is an old model, but it just works on a crop camera. Or at least I should say works for me! I

Exceptional Lens

You get what you pay for here. Some professionals use digital formatting to correct/save imperfect shots. This lens has a 98% rating on anything I shoot. The 2% is stuff in the background that I didn't intend expose usually.

This is one of the great ones

I am not a professional photographer. I work very hard and long for every dollar that is made. I have learned to send my hard earned money very wisely. I read and get as much information on the things purchased as possible. Buying quality never has disappointed me. Next is purchasing from a retailer that will support me in case of any difficulty with the product. This support comes in different forms like real experience with the product, quality products, listening to my concerns, ease of return if I need to, and support that knows exactly what extras I need to buy for my products. Adorama has all these things going for them. I am very happy with my purchase of the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens. I have a Canon 80D which I bought from Adorama also. The UV filter included in the package is of high quality. The cleaning kit is very nice with case. I like to purchase once and have all that I need. I give the whole experience five stars along with the product I bought.

Just what I was looking for.

Should be an " L " series lens. Don't know why so many people complain about the dust issue, that's why lens filters are made to protect the lenses. Strange that I have not had any issues with dust.

My favorite lens for low light for a crop sensor

I have shot over 100,000 images with this lens professionally. It gets a 4 star for the dust settling between the lenses, aka...poor sealing and focus rings. This lens also begins to creep after awhile as well so remember to hold it up between uses to avoid that quicker. If this got the better housing and sealing, it would be a 5 star rating for sure. It doesn't leave my camera. From portraits, to landscaping and flowers have been shot with mine...the 100,000 shots have been concert shots, exclusively. No matter what lighting, I can shoot with this lens.

Awesome Lens

If you have a crop camera then you will love this lens and especially love how sharp your pics will be! I've read other comments saying it performs like an L-series in terms of image quality and I totally agree....and it doesn't cost as much as an L-series lens!!

17-55 IS fantastic lens

If u plan on keeping an APS-C Sensor body this is the best all-purpose lens you can get. Great optics and IS ensures most of your shots will end up very crisp and sharp.

would recommend when you want to upgrade your lens

This lens differently is way better than my starter lens that I first started with. What I like most about this lens that you dont loss less light when you zoom out with the lens rather still get the same amount of light when zoomed in.

L Lens Image Quality at a Fraction of the Cost

I heard countless reviews referring to this as a "hidden L lens" in the area of image quality. I thought to myself, no way... But then I began to use it and realized how great of a lens it was. Keep in mind, image quality is much more about the photographers skill and how you use the camera rather than the lens itself. You can take beautiful pictures with an 18-55 kit lens, and you can take horrible ones with a 24-70 2.8 (I have seen both happen. This lens produces very sharp images. The colors are good, but I am by no means a pro and I feel that the failure to capture the natural colors and contrast are due to operator error, not the lens. Did I mention the lens is SHARP, especially when shooting portraits. (Good new bad news), you capture all of the fine details of the face flawlessly. The f/2.8 is great for low-light, and allows me to capture the shot even when limited by light. At 2.8, most lenses at this price point are noticeably soft, and this one is not at all. There are some complaints about the old Image Stabilization system and how it isn't effective for more than 3 stops. I disagree, I am able to shoot pictures at 1/20th of a second with no motion blur (in part due to a steady hand and other techniques). CONS: There are a few downsides to this lens. First, the build quality is not L lens quality, but you also pay for what you get when it comes to build quality. If you drop a lens off a mountain, it will break no matter what material it is. Second, the focus ring sometimes gets a sort of a grinding feel when you turn it, as if there is sand inside of it, but this is rare and goes away after turning it a few times. Finally, after using the zoom ring for over 6 months, lens creep happens, though it is rare and very slight when it happens. It seems to creep slightly more when it is humid outside. Be careful not to pull on the end of the lens, for that will make your lens creep worse quicker. All in all, I am very glad I chose this lens. The sharpness is unreal for the price, the colors are very accurate, and the focal range is perfect for my shooting style, mostly landscapes with some portraits. It is an awesome lens to take with you for travelling, and a great one if you want to vlog and shoot photography.

A great lens for Kit lens replacement!

Bought this to replace my T7i kit lens and gotta say that it's incredible! The extra stops ƒ2.8 gives makes it easy to shoot in different light situations and the lens retains a great sharpness at ƒ2.8! I'm glad I got this.

My favorite APS-C Lens

I just bought this lens at a steep discount, and I absolutely love it. I am using it on a Canon SL2. In my opinion, this is the best lens that I have purchased for my Canon besides the 24 mm f/2.8. Yep!!! it's all in the aperture. Canon needs to release more lenses specifically for APS-C with this specification. Even though the full frame lenses will work, the crop factor totally multiplies the EF mount focal length and EF aperture for any given lens and the results will not be as expected. But with this lens, my expectations were high and I am not disappointed. There is beautiful color and dimension in my photographs. We need a couple more lenses like this one, EF-S, with longer focal lengths and straight f/2.8 at reasonable prices.

Great Lens

I lover the lens, which works great with my 77D. Canon should come out with a new lens soon and since this one has UD glass, call it what it should be L lens: who cares if it is APS-C. Canon needs to start allowing firmware updates on all new products going forward, this ensure ever changing feature set additions and being able to fix issues.

Excellent Lens!

By photogeek133

This is an excellent lens and the cream of the crop for the EF-S line of lenses. The lens is very sharp and clear under most situations. I rarely have to apply any sharpening to the images in editing. The lens balances well on my 30D and BG-E2. It focuses fast and silently and the Image Stabilization works like a dream. I use this lens most often shooting weddings and the IS along with the constant f/2.8 aperture make this THE lens for low light shooting. Paired with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS US...

Awesome lens

By Voyager13b

I love this lens. I have owned it since the 30D was the latest APS-C camera, and it is currently shared between several cameras including the 7D for work and play. It is by far the most often used standard range zoom that I own. It has fast, silent, and accurate AF. It is rugged, it's controls are smooth, and fall to hand perfectly. The lens also captures beautiful, contrasty images without having to worry about stopping it down. The body material is very durable, and will not dent, crack, or...
