The USB Cassette to MP3 Converter from GGI International connects to your computer to create MP3 files out of cassettes, allowing you to dust off that box of tapes and revitalize your collection. All those great - yet outmoded and linear - Prince albums, Grateful Dead bootlegs and ninth-grade mix tapes will find new life on your iPod, computer, or car stereo. Transfer the old classics to the current medium so you can load them on any device and share them with friends.

The plug-and-play USB Cassette to MP3 Converter comes with Windows software that walks you through the conversion process. There you can select the bit rate of the MP3 files you're creating. Sporting the familiar shape of a portable cassette player, the USB Cassette to MP3 Converter includes all the standard playback-control buttons of a classic Walkman as well as a volume-control dial. There's a standard 3.5mm jack for your headphones and a slot for batteries in case you want to take those tapes out on a jog before you get around to converting them. Or just power the device via USB.

Move to the Digital World

from Portland, OR  -  Practical

This is a great tool. I have hundreds of cassette tapes that I thought were garbage. This unit is easy to use and produces a high quality digital sound. I have the choice of wav files or mp3. It exceeded my expectations The only improvement would be longer cables for convenience.

Questions about this item:

RYAN L  The converter comes with a small CD that will install Audacity - a free sound editing program that you can also download online -- onto your computer. After you plug the USB cord that is connected to the converter into your computer, you must open Audacity. On the Audacity interface, you will find a drop-down box from which you can select where your audio input will come from. Often, the computer's microphone is the default selection. You must change this to the one that has 'USB' written in it. After that, you press the large 'PLAY' button on the converter and, immediately after, click the red 'RECORD' button on your Audacity interface. After a moment, you will begin to see a graphical representation of the audio waves the computer is receiving. The steps after that are complicated too, but I was able to figure them out with the help of Google and the Audacity Wiki. Hope that helps.
Shopper  Will this also download vhs movies?
KATIE K  No it's only for cassettes.
Robert B  Will this work with an iMac?
LLOYD N  I also have a Mac but I understand it takes different software. I still can not get the software CD that they sent me to load. They even sent me a new CD but it is the same so I am trying a different method. Check on software for a Mac
Robert B  You can download Audacity for the iMac from the web. The program is free and it will work with this MP3 converter.
