The Apple MC975LL/A 15.4" MacBook Pro Notebook with Retina Display is a powerful notebook computer with an innovative, ultrathin, ultraportable aluminum unibody design. It is loaded with advanced power management features and an integrated lithium polymer battery, which work together to provide up to 7 hours of wireless web browsing.
The most noticeable difference between this MacBook Pro and its predecessor is the Retina display. The widescreen, LED-backlit IPS screen has a glossy finish and a native resolution of 2880 x 1880. With 220 pixel-per-inch, this MacBook Pro has a pixel count of over 5 million. You'll be able to output up to two external displays at up to 2560 x 1600 via Thunderbolt (mini DisplayPort). Any Mini DisplayPort-compatible display will plug in without the need of an adapter. This MacBook Pro also adds an HDMI support so HDMI-compliant devices, particularly HDTVs, are now natively supported as well.
The system is powered by a quad-core Ivy Bridge 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 processor. The computer is loaded with 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 256GB flash storage and a Secure Digital media card slot. You'll be able to connect to the Internet with ease via 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. The MacBook Pro also features built-in Bluetooth 4.0, which allows you to connect wireless headphones, keyboard, mice and other compatible peripherals without a hassle.
Graphics are handled by a hybrid graphics system. To take full advantage of the Retina display, this MacBook Pro uses NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics with 1GB of dedicated memory, which is 60% faster than previous Apple MacBook Pro models. The GeForce GT 650M also has NVIDIA Optimus technology, which switches over to the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 when high-performance visuals are not needed in order to save battery life.
This MacBook Pro has two Thunderbolt ports, a high-speed interface that can move data at an amazing 10Gbps, which is double that of USB 3.0. Speaking of USB 3.0, Apple has finally decided to embrace it. This MacBook Pro now features two USB 3.0 ports so you no longer have to buy an adapter, but can use USB 3.0-compliant devices natively as well.
The computer features a comfortable backlit chiclet-style keyboard, which features space between each key for improved accuracy and comfort when typing. It also sports a glass Multi-Touch trackpad with a clickable design. Rather than having a separate button for mouse clicks, the entire surface of the pad is clickable. This increases the active surface area and allows you to quickly click without having to maneuver to the bottom of the trackpad.
The trackpad also fully supports multi-touch gestures. You can tap the trackpad with one finger to click, tap with two fingers to right click, scroll through documents using two fingers, pinch to zoom, navigate through Safari or iPhoto with three-finger left and right swipes or use two fingers to rotate a photo or PDF. iLife '11 has a complete suite of digital creativity applications. Easy enough for anyone to use, iLife '11 will help you edit your home movies, organize digital photos and compose original music. iLife '11 includes iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand.
The 64-bit Mac OS X Lion features Time Machine backup, which automatically backs up system data to an external hard drive. It also features intuitive Cover Flow navigation, the powerful Spotlight search tool and Quick Look document preview. You'll be able to use Boot Camp to run Windows on your Mac, if needed.

I purchased this after being extremely frustrated with a Dell Windows 8 brand new laptop. This computer does everything I want/need and looks great doing it. The Retina display is the best display I have ever seen on a laptop and it is so EASY to use. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a laptop to plug in, turn on and use immediately!

The Macbook Pro is a well designed and really nice machine. I docked it one star because it's almost impossible to upgrade later, so you have to load it up when you buy it, which is very annoying.
Slim, light, great screen, very fast. Really no shortcomings, except it isn't cheap - but after using it for a while, I think you get what you pay for in this case. I use it for a lot of things - software development (Xcode), photography (Photoshop and Lightroom run incredibly fast on this thing), and I run Windows in both VMware and via Boot Camp for some work stuff. Easily the best laptop I've ever had.
I just had to review my new Macbook Pro 15.4" retina laptop before I went to bed. My new Macbook pro came shipped to my place today and I was so happy. It is an amazing peace of machinery. It is very well made aluminum body and glass track pad and is pretty light. Not a cheap made plastic laptop like my previous HP. I've used PCs all my life and I have to get used to the new Mac. I am so used to using a PC that I am having a hard time doing a lot of things that a PC does. Compared with my previous 4 year old PC this is extremely fast no freezing and folders and programs open up in a flash. I highly recommend a Macbook Pro for professionals. Very fast shipping as well, even though the representitive said 4 to 6 business days, it came to my place in about 3 days. Very happy.
Funny enough, two of my colleagues have already asked about the notebook during meetings. I needed a small laptop to take with me everywhere; 8GB RAM is good enough, the display is wonderful. Open it and it runs; I never switch it off. I can share apps between Macs (my home computer is a MacMini with 16BG RAM): Photoshop, Lightroom, essentially all original Mac apps I only needed to purchase once, MS office I got from work for free. I would recommend buying the attachment for LAN. The notebook is small and weighs very little, it can easily be used without a mouse, although I always have one for desktop use. Flat base means only two USB connections; use of a bluetooth mouse would be an option. The flash storage makes it incredibly fast. I would not store large numbers of photos or music on it; it's not made for that purpose. Of course I'd like it to be cheaper, but it's worth the money. I give 4 out of 5 stars, because no product should fit the description "it does not get any better". Ever.
I was in the market for a new MacBook Por and Adorama had an unbeatable deal. Not only did they have the best price, but also 3 years of AppleCare for free. What a deal. The MacBook Pro is amazingly thin. The whole computer is thinner than just the keyboard half of my old MacBook Pro
I purchased this for my daughter who is headed to college. She needed something that would last 4 years and with a minimum of hassle (aka the disaster that is windows 8). Since I have a similar MacBook myself I knew she would get an outstanding laptop so it was really a no-brainer. The only choice she had to make was btw. the air and the pro w/retina. They are very close in price so the choice is between a little more performance and a nicer screen vs. lower weight. She chose the pro but either would have served her fine. A week after we ordered the mac I noticed a new promotion that included 3 yrs of AppleCare for the same price that we had paid (already $100 below list price so equivalent to the Apple educational discount). I emailed customer service @ Adorama asking whether we could get that also since we had only just received the mac. I had anticipated some kind of insistence would be required but was pleasantly surprised when it was shipped right away. Of course this is the what one would expect any decent company to do but sadly it is rarely the case these days. I will be a return customer.
Excellent performance, great display (retina), the right combination of size for transporting and use. Solid construction. A well designed machine!
I use it for home use, transferring photos from my Nikon D800E camera, the detailed of sharpness and gamut of color is really great. It is a good machine for programming my game app.
An awesome MacBook Pro for a little over $1K. Can't beat the price or quality.
Used for photo editing as well as general use. An amazing product that so far lives up to its reputation. For starters, wonderful engineering and design. Great size -- thin and no residual wish that I'd purchased an 'Air' version. Plus, the screen size feels and appears much larger than 15.4" -- feels more like a 17" screen. Very ample, but still compact enough to carry easily. Have recently loaded a number of photo editing programs onto it. Seem to work well and extremely fast. Happy I got 16GB RAM and 516 Flash -- may come to wish I'd gone for the !GB Flash. Just starting to work with it. But, very happy with it so far.
