There was a review saying this laptop doesnt have video out ports. This laptop has a HDMI port & VGA port. I think the OP was trying to plug in their RCA cables or maybe from Kentucky?

I bought this to replace my 5 year old laptop that wasn't keeping up with my photo editing on my vacation to Germany which was really disappointing. I didn't even turn on the Asus before pulling the hard drive and replacing it with a solid state. I also upgraded the RAM from 8 to 12. One important thing to note is the factory installed 8 is divided over 2 sticks. SO if you want to max it out at 16 you need to buy two new 8 GB sticks. I don't know what apps come factory installed as I didn't turn it on with the original hard drive. I am running windows 7 Pro. If you want to install 7 pro you need to modify the bios settings. Disable Secure Boot and Enable Launch CSM. After I made the bios changes I had no issues installing Windows 7 Pro on my new SSD. This thing is fast and keeps up with everything I want to do. I can run Lightroom, Photoshop, and Photomatix with no problem. I can have photoshop batch editing photos, Photomatix merging an HDR, and edit photos in Lightroom with no issues at all. No lag between switching programs at all. If you replace the HDD you get a free 1TB external you can slap in an enclosure and use for photo storage or any other storage you wish.

Very nice computer. -Battery lasts about 3 hours -Windows 8 is easy to get used to -Graphics card is great, it can play most games on high quality and others on at least medium -There are 2 hard drives, which are a little difficult to figure out, but not a big deal. -Seems pretty durable -Keyboard is quiet and easy to type on -CPU and ram should be enough for anything you want to do -Webcam is descent This computer is everything I expected it to be and I would recommend it to anyone!

I use this laptop mainly for gaming and it far exceeds what my old laptop can do. The graphics are amazing and it works great with no problems so far. There's really nothing I don't like about it!

I love the keyboard, it is easy to use. The Windows 8 has been a bit of a problem but I called Asus support and they addressed and solved every problem I was encountering, gave me web sites to go to if I had questions and told me that if I had ANY problems to call back and they would help me. Support is one of the most important things to me. It was wonderful. The computer is light weight, love the look and it has so many things I still have to discover with it. I use my computer for design and it has been great and easy to use in my design work.

On the whole this laptop is very nice. It runs very fast, it can handle rigorous editing in Adobe Lightroom, and boots in a timely matter. The casing looks great and unique. The display is bright, crisp, and accurate. The sound from the speakers is good and the included mini subwoofer works well. The trackpad is responsive and has no "grippy" issues. The "out-of-box" Windows Experience Index was a "5.9". I like the laptop a lot, it is everything I wanted it to be. Here's the thing, it came with two physical problems: one, the metal lower half is dented in just slightly; and two, the CD tray cover sticks out by a couple millimeters. Two minor things that irked me, some one who expects their new products to come in mint condition. The other small thing is the top of the laptop is a brushed plastic material, which looks handsome, but you can push it in a few millimeters, which makes it feel kind of cheap. Overall, the N56VJ is a good laptop for a typical power user or some one that just wants something that should last them for five or six years. It uses a great processor, great RAM, a good hard drive, and looks stylish.

I have spend more than 6 month searching for computer before buying this model. It's hard to find something better with price below $1200. For entertainment (movies, music) and light gaming this computer is great. Did not check for demanding video games, but that was not my goal. I reccomend to replace HDD with SSD that slowing computer.

ASUS products are probably the closest you get to MACs in terms of build quality, style and features/functionality, but at half the price. I like the HD screen and webcam. The keyborad has a nice feel and is backlit. I always use a wireless mouse hence the touchpad issues others have experienced is not a problem for me.This is a "power monster" with a nice graphics card. It's got an extra large HD. The only down side is the 5400 rpm capability. As flash drives get cheaper/have more capacity, I will plan on replacing the HD down the road.
