Very good for looking at starmaps, goes from dim enough not to ruin night vision to bright enough to load things back into the car.

I've owned an older _non-waterproof) version for over 10 years now. Good reliable light. I bought this and a Mini so I can keep one with the scope and the other two in a couple of camera bags. Don't want to be caught without one! These two look as well made as the old one. This waterproof version is rather bulky; I prefer the mini since I have little need for a waterproof light, but if I do, I have one :-)

Haven't used it at a star party yet, but both the white and red lights appear easy to use and are completely adjustable. I tested it briefly at night and at the max settings it was bright, but I thought it might be brighter; however my eyes were not dark adapted so it could be perfectly adequate. If not, it would take a 3/3 LED design to make it brighter.
