Tom S : how do I replace the battery in the starlight mini 2 LED flashlight? Thanks TomTED S : The front portion of the Rigel Systems Starlite Mini slides out of the main body. The included 9V battery is attached to the front bezel. The total time of battery replacement is less than 10 seconds.DAVID H : To replace the battery in the Starlite Mini, depress the case to the side of the thumbwheel. This will release the front of the case which holds the lens. The entire assembly will then slid out of the case. The battery is a standard rectangular 9 volt variety. Replace the battery with a new one and reinsert the assembly. Snap the lens back on and you’re ready to go. The batteries last quite a while. I have had mine for a couple years and have not had to replace the battery yet.WILLIAM D : Look down onto the top of the unit, lens facing forward away from you. Just to the left of the on/off wheel, there will be a rectangular tongue of plastic with a raised ramp in the center of it. Push down on it and notice that it is "springy". Pushing down on it will release a tab holding the front lens assembly in place. You can see this tab through the slot in the top of the lens cover. So push down on this tab and gently pull the front lens cover away. Now slowly tip the whole unit downward into your hand and the light assembly plus 9v battery will fall right out into your hand. After replacing the battery, fit the tab on the bottom of the flashlight into the bottom of the lens cover slot first, and then snap the lens cover in place.KEITH B : Depress the tab by the on/off wheel and the front of the light comes off. The insides slide out and you can change the battery. Put everything back where you got it and you are all set.STEPHEN S : Right next to the switch there is a small, raised, rectangular tab. Push down on the tab, then remove the end cap. Then tilt the open container down, and the entire light will slide out. Detach the 9 volt battery by gently tilting the printed circuit board away from it along the long side. Replace, then perform the foregoing steps in reverse order.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Stephen P : This is the best observer's light for amateur astronomers. I have tried many and always go back to the Skylight mini.Cynthia S : Rose City Astronomers newsletter recommendation

Good value

I had a similar light from Orion. This light is a big improvement. The dimming knob works well. The whole light has sturdier feel. Happy with my purchase.Hard to beat for the money.

Good Red Light

The light pattern is not quite perfect, but the variable brightness control and light weight makes this a good map reading light.

Not perfect, but the best for astronomy

Good for astromony. Can be adjusted through a range of brightness settings. Most red flashlights are just too bright for night-adapted eyes, but not this one. Also, the red LEDs are recessed a bit from the business end of the flashlight, so they won't be seen unless someone is in front of the unit. I usually hold the flashlight with my teeth when viewing charts, and the squared-off shape of the unit isn't too comfortable. Plus, it's a little heavy used that way, and this is the Mini! If they only made a smaller, lighter, round body, rubber-coated, single red LED dimmable flashlight, I would purchase it.

Perfect for new astronomers.

Right size and just what we needed for reading sky charts and adjusting optics in the dark. Better than we expected.

Great Light!

Have had the prior slightly longer version for over 10 years. Very reliable. Bought this and a waterproof version for various scope cases and camera bags. This is nice and compact; fits anywhere. This one lives in my Think Tank Speed Changer bag. Red and White option are very helpful for different applications.

Nice red flashlight for astronomy

Solid build, variable light power, not expensive - I like it !

The bestselling astronomers' flashlight with 2 Red LEDs. The intensity is fully adjustable with Thumbwheel Brightness Control. Exclusive brightness regulation circuitry keeps the LEDs shining bright as batteries age, unlike other LED flashlights which start bright but quickly fade.

The Mini Starlites are only 3.5" long, 2 inches shorter than the standard Size water resistant version.

NOT water resistant (sorry there's only so much we could squeeze in), but all the other great features in a smaller, lighter case.
