Made from a virtually unbreakable composite material, the shock mount effectively isolates the microphone from the vibrations created by handling a camera. Designed to mount on top of a camera’s cold shoe, a threaded ¼”-20 tap is also available for boompole and accessory bar mounting.

The SMX-30 is equipped with both stereo and mono recording modes, offering flexibility and versatility in a single device. The stereo microphone features two cardioid polar pattern microphone elements, spaced apart at a 120-degree angle, ensuring a natural-sounding stereo image. The mono microphone, on the other hand, employs a super-cardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of the camera, capturing broadcast-quality sound with the same high-quality element as Azden's SGM-250 shotgun microphone.

The SMX-30 microphone offers level adjustments of -10dB, 0dB, and +20dB. The +20dB gain booster is designed to alleviate noise produced by low-quality camera preamps, ensuring a strong, clean audio signal. The -10dB pad is perfect for loud sound environments, protecting against distortion when recording at live concerts or motorsport events.

This microphone boasts a wide frequency response, ranging from 40Hz to 20kHz, capturing audio that sounds full and natural. A selectable low-cut filter at 120Hz, 3dB/octave is included, which is ideal for reducing low-frequency noise caused by air conditioners, wind, and traffic.

The SMX-30 operates on two AA batteries, offering a cost-effective power solution. It can achieve 24 hours of operation with a single set of batteries without any degradation of sound quality. An integrated battery indicator LED light provides up to a 1-hour warning before battery replacement is needed.

The SMX-30 also features an innovative "Auto" power setting. When set to Auto, the microphone can detect when a camera is on and will automatically power on and off with the camera, maximizing battery life and eliminating the risk of dead batteries due to accidental left-on situations.

The microphone comes with a custom, detachable foam windscreen and an integrated shock-absorbing shoe-mount with a 1/4"-20 thread. This design isolates the microphone from camera motor and handling noise and allows for mounting to boom poles and other camera accessories.
