Rugged tripod

Just bought this tripod with 486RC2 ball head. Took it out to shoot fireworks on July 4th. But a thunderstorm showed up and fireworks were canceled. But I got several shots of lightning with exposures ranging from 1 sec to 3 sec. In a wind of 25mph (I guessed), the pictures came out without any blur that I can detect when viewing at 100%. The only thing I am not really satisfied are the caps of the tension screw. They are way too loose. I've already lost two out of six. I would hope that Man...

I would hope that Manfrotto can send me some extra to prevent rusting of the screws.

Sturdy tripod

Stability comes with a price but the added weight is worth it. The construction is rock solid and ready for abuse.

Get the BEST!

Why waste your time on something less than the best? My customers count on me, I need a tripod I can count on. That is why I only use Bogen - Manfrotto.

Reliable! Great Product!

By

from miami, FL  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I use this product for video productions and time lapse and long exposure photography. It's lightweight without a video head like a 501 attached to it.

Heavy Duty

I bought this tripod to replace my Manfrotto model 3401B that isn't available anymore. If it is as good as the one it is replacing it should provide good results. The 3401B is roughly 15 years old and has traveled thousands of miles in the back of a truck on Horses, and backpacks, used to support spotting scopes, cameras, binoculars and also as a shooting rest for Big-Game hunting. Would rate as a 5 but have not used it in the field yet. Will provide follow-up in a year or 2. However Adorama is the sole provider for our Outfitting business needs in the way of tripods, optics, and cameras.

Great product. Mounting screw needed an adapter to fit the head that I use. (pistol grip).

from a tall guy

By

from Phenix City Al.  -  Semi-pro Photographer

this tripod is great for that tall photographer, not as light as a carbon fiber but not as heavy as others i tried. the thumb locks are easy to use and the legs slide in out fast. it is a very stable tripod.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
JAMES O  always have had success with manfrotto tripods for video.
Shopper  would any 3/8" head with a fit this? I purchases a Dolica 3 way pan head and like it. However the set of legs I got aren't sturdy enough.
STEWART B  from my experience any 3/8" head will screw over the stud on this tripod and lock down
Arun K  What is the difference between this and the Manfrotto 055XB Black *Basic* Tripod ?
KEVIN M  I'm not sure if I understand your question exactly. Maybe you're trying to compare the 055XB to the 055XDB? The XDB is the one described as "basic." The center column of the 055XB is removable and replaceable with a short column. This allows you to splay the legs wide for very low tripod-supported shots. The 055XB also has quick release locking tabs on the legs. The 055XDB does not allow for replacement of the center column, and comes with traditional twist-screw leg locks. Be careful when ordering tripods from Adorama, as they have lots of bundles with heads. Make sure you know exactly what you are ordering, as the head you select makes a huge difference in ease of use of your tripod. Good luck!
