VIRGINIA B : I have the Manfrotto 234 RC Swivel Tilt Head with a quick release. Is this too flimsy for this tripod? If yes, what do you use that is better?VIRGINIA B : Thanks for the advice....I may get the tripod first and try my 234RC and see how it feels with my biggest lens...Nikon 70-200F2.8SUE C : I use the Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head with quick release. It works really well and is very sturdy, though as with most ball heads it creeps just slightly. But it's easy to adjust. I'm sorry I don't know about the 234 RC Swivel Tilt Head. Look at how many pounds it will support. This tripod is very well built, and I can't imagine anything being too flimsy for it.VIRGINIA B : Thanks Rodney.VIRGINIA B : THanks Wally.ERIC F : Virginia, I have used my Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 tripod with my Canon 7D camera and 24 - 70 lens (about 5 lbs total) since September, 2010. The tripod has proven to be a stable platform regardless of the configuration I've used.ANGELICA R : I'm not familiar with that head and it might depend on the camera/lens you use. The 234 RC is a smaller and lighter head than the one I use with that tripod, which is the 390RC2. I also think it depends which equipment (camera and lens) you attach to it and your photographic needs. I like to shoot both film and stills and use a Canon 7D with the heavy 70-200 zoom lens and works very well, I only need to make sure that if I'm shooting vertically, which is rare, the head with the camera is firmly locked, otherwise it tends to shift. You might want to give it a try and see if it works with you equipment. I hope this helps. Good luck.WALLY S : This would depend entirely on the actual weight of your camera with lens attached. I have the Manfrotto 141RC which supports 13.2 lbs. I don't think they actually make this model anymore. I mount my Nikon D7100 with 70-200 lens attached with no problems. In summary, add the weight of your comaera plus the heaviest lens you would be using and go from there as to your selection of the proper head.RODNEY S : I have had no problems with it. I am able to use it with a Canon EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 mounted on a Canon 5D.
James A : Is the Manfrotto 054 Ball Head an acceptable fit to this Tripod? Thanks in advance!SUNDAY B : I fitted the tripod with 324RC2 which is an excellent fit. I have no experience with 054 so I cannot comment on the fit.SHAHRAM V : Not sure, I am using the following and am happy with it. www.adorama.com/BG324RC2K.htmlLORI W : Yes, great pair. I use this set- up with my 7d & 5D Mark lll with 400mm lens for birds in flight. Go for itANGELICA R : I would imagine it is if you do mostly photographs, but I didn't purchase that head because I like to do some filming too. Sorry I couldn't help, but enjoy your tripod!WALLY S : I presently have been using the standard tilt head on my 190cxpro3 but will probably be purchasing the 054 ball head in the future. If you check the Manfrotto web site you will find that the 054 ball head is listed as a perfect match for that tripod. Hope this helps you make a decision.THEODORE S : This is a great combo - Michael S
ying h : Hi, Is there a "short center column" to fit this Manfrotto 190cx pro3 tripod? Thank you, inadvance, for your answer. yingJ FREDERICK T : Regardless of what other users have said -- YES, the 190CCS (Center Column, Short) WILL fit any of the Manfrotto 3001 and 190 family tripods.Thinh L : I'm not sure what you mean by "short center column" but you would need to purchase a tripod head to use this tripod since the tripod does not provide a tripod head to attach your camera.JOHN H : Not that I know of. The tripod is outstanding, easy to use and ligh enough to carry all day. It is my second Manfrotto. The carbon fiber one is so much lighter.Richard S : There is not. However, it is not required as the design of the tripod allows you to flip the center column horizontally. You can get as low as you need to with this tripod. (Just know that you need to purchase the head separately.) It is light, sturdy, and well made. I've been quite happy with it.TOBIN W : Yes. Search for 190CCS.

Great investment

I love Manfrotto products. It took me a long time to move into carbon fiber and I'm sorry I waited so long!

Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 tripod

I really like the horizontal bar for macrophotography. It can unfold in so many different ways... great for macrophotography. I wish the horizontal bar would fold at different angles. Slightly heavy when you ad a tripod head.

Perfect for D7000 + 18-200 VR II + SB700

The total weight of my gear is under 4 pounds. I have Nikon D7000 + 18-200 VR II lens + SB-700 Speedlight. I bought Oben BB-1 ballhead with this. This combo is great! Love this tripod - extremely light weight and feels like a rock! I looked at both 190CXPRO 4-section and 3-section tripods but liked 3-section more. The legs are sturdier with 3-section.

Excellent if you need to carry a tripod

I carry this tripod into wooded and prairie areas in search of macro photos of wildflowers. Its light weight makes it ideal. Most of my subjects are low to the ground and the horizontal center post and splaying legs are features that are very useful. The trade off is the maximum height when fully extended. I would not recommend this particular tripod if the photographer is tall.

Excellent Tripod for a Day at the Zoo

I bought a cheap tripod and was disappointed in the stability. Then I got a sturdy one and was disappointed with the weight. This one is light and sturdy. I should have bought it first. Works well with my D300 with an 80-400 zoom at the zoo. I can carry it around all day.

Highly Recommend

I purchased this a couple of years ago and am now just doing a review. I can't say enough about this tripod, its that good. I've been in photograhy 35+yrs and have had a few tripods. I main concern with this purchase was a solid/durable/lightweight tripod and this fits the bill to a tee! I mated it with the Manfrotto 498 ball head which is rated for 17lbs so I knew it would hold my Nikon D90 w/attached battery grip and a SB900 with no problem even with the 17-55mm f2.8 lens in the vertical position!. I also purchased the Manfrotto RC2 rapid connect plate. I later added a Manfrotto Carbon Fiber monopod and added the same head w/the RC2 for compatability. Purchase this, you won't be dissapointed. FWIW I also recommend the Manfrotto Rubber Suction Cup feet.

This tripod is a big improvement on my previous (Manfrotto 190/GK08). It is very quick to set up and easy to carry due to its light weight. It can be a bit top-heavy with a DSLR on top, but a camera bag can be used to lower the center of gravity (but for some reason, the hook for this was not included with the tripod - why?). It folds small enough to fit in aircraft baggage: this, combined with its light weight, makes it good for travel.

Stellar and Worth the Price!

Love it, love it! After a few months of research including reading reviews and recommendations on how to select a tripod, I narrowed it down to this Manfrotto. I am really happy with the decision, which I thought out carefully due to the significant expense. If you told me I'd buy a tripod in this price range a year ago, and STILL have to purchase a ball head and plate, I never would have believed it. But upon doing extensive research, I found it is better to buy the right equipment upfront, than to realize the mistake later by trying to save initially and then having to buy the better quality items anyway. Does anyone want to risk having several thousands of dollars of camera equipment being ruined or damaged because you settled on a cheap tripod to save a few bucks? That sure is something to think about - stability is a key factor! This tripod specs out at more weight than I even expect to ever put on it, but the capability is there, so it will grow with my needs and hopefully be a "forever" tripod! (I presently use the tripod with a Nikon D-90 with either 12-24mm, 18-200mm or 105mm macro Nikon lenses.) I resisted a tripod, not wanting to carry one around, but it's all about the end result of the photos! So, I ordered this Manfrotto and am thrilled at its substance while being so lightweight! It's a great looking tripod that stands apart from the cheap models that would not support a heavier camera and lenses. This is also good on photography jobs as it only enhances one's professionalism with clients. It is super easy to set up and take down and literally saved me by arriving just before a Real Estate Interior shoot that had low lighting. The tripod enabled me to get amazing photos with longer exposures and no flash with the end result being accurate colors and capturing the ambiance of actually being in the home. I would have been in trouble trying to do the job without a tripod and resorting to flash photos would not have been the same. Many photographers recommended the 190CXPRO4 vs. this PRO3 (4 sections vs. 3) as the 4 folds up just a few (3 ?) inches shorter and works for carry-on air travel. On the other hand, I was told that the fewer the sections, the more stability, so I opted for the PRO3 as I do not plan to be traveling by air, I am also pretty sure the "4" has a few more ounces, which was a consideration for me as well. I was looking to reduce weight in every way possible knowing I still had to add the ball head. I chose the Acratech GV-2 ball head, also from Adorama, see separate review. So, I am thrilled with this tripod "system" and highly recommend it for virtually all aspects of photography (note that it "squats" down very low as well, making it suitable for MACRO photography too!). I plan on this tripod suiting my professional needs for a very long time and feel that my research paid off on this decision.

Excellent product

This is a really good tripod and I am very happy with it. The only con that I can think of is that the legs don't automatically slide downwards when released - I need to pull them down which can add a couple of seconds to fully setting it up. Aside from that, the construction is good, the stability is what I need, and it is nice and light.

Great Tripod

I'm using this with a Markins ballhead. I really like the tripod. It's a good tradeoff between stability and weight. Not the most stable but I didn't want something hard to carry around. I've had it almost a year and still love it. The heaviest equipment I use with this is a 70-200 II with a 5D MkII.

Without queston - a quality product

Let me state up front that I always read product reviews before making a purchase and will be completely honest in my review of this product. I purchased the 190CXPRO3 to replace an aluminum Manfrotto that weighed almost 6 lbs. My primary reason for the purchase was the weight reduction. My initial concerns over stability were erased after using it for portraits, landscape and night photography. Two trips to our local zoo involved numerous setups on uneven ground. The built-in level is very handy in these cases. This tripod folds and unfolds quickly and smoothly. This is important as I probably made a couple of dozen different setups or more during the zoo visits. I should also mention that the center post converts quickly to the portrait position. I am very impressed with the functionality and overall quality of this product. A true example of getting what you pay for.

Light, stable & invaluable

This tripod is light and folds & unfolds quickly. I take it with me everywhere. The only problem I've had is the convertible central column collar will come apart if you're not careful and raise the column enough pull it out.

Great carbon fibre tripod

Extremely convenient because of it's light weight; at a fantastic price. Very stable platform; useful both in and outdoors. Even better when paired with a compatible ball head.

Well worth the money.

This tripod is really light which makes it a true pleasure to use if you do any sort of outdoor photography. I was concerned that maybe it wouldn't be so stable since it is so light but I was indeed wrong about that. My old tripod is also a Manfrotto, it is a Wilderness model which weighs 10 lbs.+ with a pan tilt head....I'd have to say that both tripods are equivelent in stabilty but they are worlds apart in weight, features and price. If I knew then what I know now, I would have just saved my money and bought the 190CXPRO3 in the first place as it was worth every penny!

In 2007 the Manfrotto 190x received the TIPA award for Best Accessory on the market, while the 190xPROB won The Editor's Choice award from American Photo. Manfrotto was so proud to receive these awards, but they didn't want to stop there. Manfrotto has taken this already amazing tripod to the next level. Manfrotto presents a New Generation of tripods to the carbon fiber tripod world, extremely light weight with, incredible performance, fast and easy to use combining incredibly light, high quality materials (100% Carbon Fiber Tubes, Magnesium and aluminum die castings) a revolutionary patented center column mechanism (Q90°, Quick Center Column System), and innovative design.

The 190CxPRO3 and the 190CxPRO4 represent three section and four section versions of the PRO tripods. These PRO versions have the patented quick center column system that now uses a tri-faceted 100% full carbon fiber tube, magnesium die castings and magnesium top plate with an integrated leveling bubble.
