Questions & Answers

Shopper : I want to use this item to mount speed light.... What I need to use actually to connect to stand and to connect with speed light? Thank youPAYPAL, ITAY VO ( : You need an adapter to hold your flash (with or without an umbrella/softbox) to the arm. Find one that suit your needs. Other than that - you need a stud (I think it comes with the arm) to connect the other side of the arm to the stand/tripod. It's a nice product. I also have one. Enjoy, ZachJANAIA D : It all depends on what your speed light requires to be mounted. We use these to mount LED lights -- I think we had to get a lindahl universal shoe adapter or a smith victor univ to shoe adapter. (I can't recall). Your best bet is to talk to a rep at Adorama with that information.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ERIC B : With this arm and a Super Clamp I can attach them to my C-Stand. Thus adding a lower strip box to create clamshell lighting. Another photographer had this setup and it worked perfectly.Dennis C : Because it serves the purpose that I need.MICHAEL C : Quality

very useful

Its an extra arm. That's very useful. Main reason I got it was to make a mini boom out of a light stand. Just throw it on a light stand and now I have way more flexibility in positioning my speedlights.

Manfrotto Articulated Arm

Does exactly what I want it to do but adjusting the arms is a bit tedious because I have to almost completely unscrew the butterfly thumb screw in order to make an adjustment. The parts just don't move very freely unless completely loosened.

For holding speedlights and reflectors

Can you mount a speedlight on this arm - Yes you can. One end of the arm will go into the Manfrotto Super Clamp. On the other end you need to keep a double male thread stud called Manfrotto 037 Camera Mounting Stud. This has a 3/8" thread on one side and 1/4" thread on the other, both male. You can screw the 3/8" end of the stud into the spigot of the arm. On the other side of the stud you can screw a shoe with a 1/4" female thread. Sometimes you won't even need the shoe since some manufacturers like Nikon for e.g. supply a foot which has a 1/4" female thread on it along with speedlights. Hope this helps. Ashok

Perfect for small off-camera strobes

I struggled with placement of my small soft-box in some cases until I got mine. It works great!

Its an extra arm. That's very useful. Main reason I got it was to make a mini boom out of a light stand. Just throw it on a light stand and now I have way more flexibility in positioning my speedlights.

The two-section 196AB-2 articulated arm supports 3.3 lbs at full extension and weighs less than 1 lb. It also benefits from the extra versatility given by the sliding extension system which allows easier positioning of lighting fixtures even in awkward and tight spaces.

Maximum Length is 23.8 inches, and the bottom 5/8" spigot (compatible with the Superclamp), also has a 1/4" thread.
