I'm using this on a couple of different Manfrotto light stands. It s very sturdy and the counterbalance weight system works very well. The counterbalance is a pretty significant formed chunk of steel.

Clamped the boom to the top tube of a light stand. Monolight base on one end of the boom counterbalancing a remote head and light modifier on the opposite end. Repurposed the boom counterweight, moved it to the base of the light stand to add stability. Gives a great deal of flexibility positioning light sources and modifiers. Can also add height to light stands in a pinch. Strong and functional means of joining boom sections, but somewhat clumsy. If you lose the allen wrench necessary to assemble/disassemble sections, it's likely to be a bad day.

This boom comes with the 10lb weight, adjustable boom pole mounting bracket and clips to keep your strobe power cord nice and neat against the pole. It does bend a little with a XPLOR 600 on there when it's straight out to the side but it's sturdy enough. Get a tennis ball, slit it open on one side and stick it on the bottom and you can use it as an assistants boom pole. Nice build.

I use this boom with a Manfrotto 143BKT camera bracket to position my gripped Canon 5dIII so as to shoot from above -- a wireless remote shutter release makes this rig complete. The counterweight is sufficiently massive but not excessively so (sure beats a sandbag!). The boom components rotate easily but stay locked in place once positioned.

The boom certainly works, but setting it up and taking it down could be a little easier. The mechanism connecting the three sections is reliable, it's just not quick.

The grip at the end of the boom opposite the light allows the boom to be rotated with precision. The boom is easy to disassemble for transport and then assemble for use. The middle section can be removed if working in a tight space.
