Terrible product!

The camera twists if on horizontal position and if you try to tighten it it ruins the bottom rubber part of your camera! After the moment of despair during a photo shot the head is all wiggly and it doesn't hold the camera firmly not even on horizontal position. I've tried to contact the support and the have another company taking care of the support. They didn't help me at all.

Super ball-head in a small package

Works great on any tripod, but GREAT on a monopod. Small, easy to adjust, light weight and VERY stable / secure.

Solid, good weight & convenience

By

from Laguna Beach, CA  -  Photography Student

I use this with my D90 and an 18-105 and super-wide angle lens for landscape, artistic and a variety of nature shots. The quick release is solid. It clamps down well. Be careful when you loosen- you aren't going to get any good stitching photos with this ballhead. If this had a panoramic swivel on the bottom and a bubble level on the top, 5 stars. Convenience and quality with great weight and simple-to-use design. Look at the features- there are hardly any. But what it does, it does very well. If you really want more control over motion (such as the example of stitching multiple frames together), get a pan/tilt.

For the Price it's ok.

By

from Baldwin, NY  -  Photography Student

For the price it does what it is supposed to do. I had a hard time with the release, it is a bit hard to get the camera on and off the tripod quickly.

Great upgrade to what I had

By

from Central Mass.  -  Photo Enthusiast

I like to photo waterfalls which very often require long uphill hikes. This ball head weighs less than half of the one it's replacing with obvious increase in quality. It is ideal for my purposes. Tom

Works great for monopod & sports combo!

By

from Urbana, IL  -  Pro Photographer

This ball head works really well for my sports photography. I mounted it on top of my monopod and it easily holds my D700+200mm lens. My only slight con would be that the clamp doesn't tighten quite as well as my older model Manfrotto ball head (which they no longer make).

My first one broke after a year and i sent it in for repairs. Despite it being a small problem Manfrotto said I would have to pay full price [$] to replace it. I just bought a new one through adorama. Hopefully the first was a fluke but not impressed with Manfrotto and the way they back up their product.

Makes life easier

I have this ball head mounted on my Manfrotto Monopod. It really makes a monopod easier to use when it is not practical to use a tripod.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does the platform come off?
JOHN A  I just tried to twist it off, I think it is pressed in, so no. If you are looking for a small compact ball head for traveling, hiking or backpacking this is a good head. I tried a smaller one and it did not work as advertised, wouldn't hold a 35mm camera and a 105mm lens. The 494 works well
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
DAVID H  I chose this ball head to go with my Manfrotto monopod. It works great and It allows me to position the camera any way I like and not have to worry how the monopod is positioned.
Benjamin C  1. What is the ball head weight? 2. Does it fit onto standard tripods?
LINDA D  This ball head does fit onto standard tripods. I can't remember the weight but it was right around what the specs say. I've since sold it and purchased the same ball head but with the quick release platform. They are both good ball heads.
