Questions & Answers

Christine V : Do I have a buy a head for it or can I use it as it is?CHARLES J : You could use without a head and using a 1/4" stud to screw into the bottom of your camera. But this would be an awkward arrangement. You would have to tilt the monopod and camera for any shot not in a truly horizontal orientation. And it would be really awkward to take vertical shots; you would have to hold the monopod horizontally. Yes, you could get by without a head, but you would be much better off with one. And monopod heads are that expensive.JUDITH G : Christine V, You can use the monopod as is. Obviously, buying a small pan head would make it more flexible, but it may be overkill and make the whole setup top heavy and awkward to adjust.JIM C : Yes, you will need a head ... which attaches to the camera. For my Nikon D-80, the head attachment screws into the threaded hole on the bottom of the camera. The head lets you quickly slide the camera on and off the monopole. (There is no screw on the top of the monopole to mate with a camera; thus you need the little head attachment.)LYNN C : You can use it as it is as long as your camera has the screw hole in the bottom.Christine V : Thanks a lot George. What head do you suggest for a Nikon D 90? Does it fit in a suitcase?GEORGE B : I had to buy a head for it.
Christine V : How heavy is it?RAYMOND R : Just a couple lbs. You really don't know that it is attached to your camera. Very handy especially if you have a large lens on your camera. When I have a 70-200 lens very handy.DAN H : Right at 1.5 lbsHERM D : It's very light, probably 2 lbs or so. Easy to use and put on your shoulder.WILLIAM S : 2 pounds 4.3 ozChristine V : Thanks a lot! But the problem is that they won't deliver to my address. Always problems! But then, that's my problem.HARRY B : It's not heavy at all. I carry mine around the neck when I am on the move. It's sturdy and am well pleased with it.Aubrey E : 1.5 lbs. approx.
David M : What is this "45 degree flip" they talk about?EUGENE G : I don't know. Mine is a solid platform so you cannot turn the camera sidewaysBRUCE N : It describes the amount of rotation of the lock levers needed to lock and unlock the leg sections.ED M : Not sure. I put an external flat head w/quick release plate on mine. I use this with lens that have the built-in tripod collar. BTW...this is a great monopod. If my current one ever wears out, I buy this one again in a heartbeat. Hope this helps.BARRY D : no idea what 45' is either. Unless its the head that swivels 45 degrees. I use a pistol grip as well. Great tool, i may get a new one!JOHN B : The 45 degree flip refers to the quick action lock lever. It really is the way to go. It's about 1000000 times faster than a screw lock system. Just make sure you keep track of the special plastic wrench that comes with the monopod. You will need it from time to time to tighten the locking levers. The wrench clips onto the monopod, but can still get lost.

Excellant Choice for a Monopod

Needed a sturdy monopod for my large telephoto lens. The Manfrotto 681B fit the need perfectly. Easy adjust locks to adjust height. Sturdy enough to backpack into the Mountains. Higly recommend!

Great monopod, but careful with the clip

I bought this as a kit with tilting head. The monopod is high quality and very sturdy. Very pleased with the monopod. There is a plastic clip that attaches to the leg which is used for adjusting the nuts on the locking clamps. It just snaps onto the leg and I lost it the first day I used it. I suggest taking this off an keeping it in your camera bag. That's my only complaint.

Excellent, Fits 1/4 and 3/8

I didn't know when I bought this but the screw head is 3/8. The outer 3/8 head is spring loaded and drops down to reveal the 1/4 inch head for most cameras. Strong and light weight.

Arm saver!

I bought this to shoot a marathon, partially for extra stability, but also because I knew I'd be shooting for 6 or 7 hours with a heavy lens and flash attached. It saved my arms and shoulders. Some of the other guys shooting without support were suffering badly by the end of the event. This is a good solid support that not only held my camera up, but held me up too. It serves as a nice, solid "stick" to lean on. It says it holds 26.5 lbs, but I'm fairly certain I leaned on it with more force than that a few times. The joints lock down very solidly. Yeah, it's aluminum and may transmit vibrations more and be slightly heavier than carbon fiber, but I had no problems with weight or vibration. It feels like carrying around air compared to my tripod (which happens to be carbon fiber). I put it in my tripod bag (cuz it doesn't come with a bag or shoulder strap) and I found myself checking once or twice to make sure it was still in there. I like that there are two joints instead of three like the other similar model. It makes it a little longer when closed, but it opens very quickly. Drop the bottom extension to full, lock it, open the top one and lock it at the right height. The top lock is always in easy reach if you need to make height adjustments as you shoot.

This is Great

I am a sports photographer and this is a great product. It's strong and I have no problem having a Nikon D700 with a 100-300mm lens on it.

Does what a monopod should do.

It's a strong, stable, monopod. I really don't plan on using it a great deal...but when I need one...it will do the job. I have figured out that I need a ball-head verses the RC234 Swivel Tilt Head that I purchased with this monopod.

A beast

This is a heavy duty monopod, excellent for carrying and supporting a camera with 500mm lens, if you don't have a heavy set up, get a lighter version. Construction is excellent, lost the plastic clip on wrench the first day, dual threaded mount works with any camera or tripod head.

Strong Support

Been wanting a monopod for the times I didn't want to carry a full tripod. Not the lightest boy on the block but I liked the solid feel, the smooth action and the quality of build. Very satisfied. This gets the job done and in kit with 234Rc was a very good value.

Got it with the head. Strong but heavy compared to tripods. Ideal for hiking and going after nature shots.

Does double duty as a walking stick

I needed a good monopod after purchasing a 200MM Canon lens for those times when the light is dimmer and I do not want to use high ISO's and wide open apertures for better DOF. This is a strong Monopod, it extends quickly and the camera attaches easily and securely with the 234RC Monopod head.
