Questions & Answers

Carol Y : Can the tripod support the camera in portrait mode?MARK H : The "grip" is strong enough but the problem is that when you turn your DSLR sideways, the camera body interferes with the legs or the tabletop so there is no way to position the camera vertically for a portrait mode. You can squeeze the legs together to make it higher off the table but when the legs are like that they don't stay put - not stiff enough to hold the camera up. It would work fine for a smaller body camera though. By the way, there is a new Manfrotto tripod that I have that has a pushbutton and a ball head. That one is much superior to this one for ease of use in positioning the camera. Simply push in the button, aim your camera and release the push button. It's easier than this one that requires you to screw in a bolt.SAM R : This small tripod is heavily built for its size, but size is the limiter. It could possibly hold a camera in portrait mode--BUT the camera would first need to have an "L" bracket attached that would allow for the screw-in ball head on the tripod to attach, and secondly, I would only want to do that with a compact P/S camera or, at the most, a small DSLR with a small lens. I've owned this tripod for years (had a couple of them). I would recommend it with the optional extension rod as a great "chest pod" for steadying a camera while shooting at low shutter speeds and/or motion situations such as riding on a boat. It's good, but it does have its limitations.WASHINGTON H : It holds my D5100 in landscape and portrait just fine.TONY D : Of course...as long as you have tripod mount on edge of camera...best done with L-mount like Really Right StuffTOM T : grandaughter only uses it with a point-n-shoot camera, I would not trust using a large SLR in portrait mode, non-portrait position is fine thou.ERNEST L : Unless you have a small camera with the tripod connection on the end, then no. This is truly a tiny tripod. I use it with a Fuji X100T when I travel and crop to portrait orientation. HTH Ernie
Shopper : Will it fit a Yukon 6-100-100 Spotting Scope ?JAMES V : Yes this will.DANIEL L. N : Hi. It works great for my light weight camera and has standard 1/4 inch threads which work on a great number of things. The only concern might be that a spotting scope might have a different center of gravity, being longer than a camera it might want to tip the tripod over? Hope this is helpful, Dan
Shopper : Is the ball head removable? hunter,JAMES M : Yes, however, removing the ball head (as noted by unscrewing the bottom nut) would defeat the purpose of this compact table-top tripod. You would then have to replace it with some other, larger head system. Not advised. If it isn't broken, don't "fix" it.CARL A : The ball head does seem to be removable by removing the small nut on the bottom, however, it does not appear to be functional without the bullhead. This thing is great for extra support for Nikon flashes or placing your camera in very low or tight situations.PETER L : To an extent, yes. If you loosen the thumbscrew enough, the bullet-shaped piece that it threads into will lift off the folding tripod legs. You do *not* need to remove the thumbscrew, just back it out a bit more than you normally would to free up the ball joint and adjust the angle. But the disc you turn to screw the head into the camera body appears permanently fixed to the piece with the ball, and there's no way to remove the ball from the bullet-shaped piece that holds the thumbscrew.STEVEN M : No, ball head is not removable. This is a very compact well built unit. I recommend it

It's solid but steep price.

I'm staring at it. $50. For another $50 I could have gotten a full size tripod. I would be much happier if it was $35. Great product. I'd buy it again and again because it's manfrotto. I wouldn't play around and try to HOPE a $25-$35 non-manfrotto is as good.

Excellent product with 'Multiple Uses'

Aside from its obvious use as a table-top tripod, I use these as camera stands mounted with a quick release adaptor. They are great for keeping my cameras off abbrasive surfaces and standing them fast while I change lenses, batteries, echange memory cards or perform other servicing, including cleaning. My cameras usually stay on them while not in their cases, covered with a large 'Digital Goja' black microfiber cleaning cloth. With a Bogen or Manifrotto quick release adapter, the cameras snap right in and release with the quick flick of a lever. I'm very pleased with my setup and would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it. It also helps keep case wear down to a minimum, even works with my 6lb. Nikon F5 and 300mm tele-lens.

Sturdy, but needs a bag

Needs a bag to come with it, instead of having to buy something separately. Fits nicely in my camera bag, and able to support my D800 with MB and flash plus a 24-120mm f4 lens with no difficulties. Price is about right if they threw in a nice little bag.

Great Little Tripod

Fits small camera bags. Can be smuggled in where large tripods are not allowed.

Sturdy and simple

I'm currently working on a stop-motion project for grad school and was having difficulty with the stabilty of my tri-pod. An instructor of mine recommended this tri-pod. It's incredibly sturdy! And what I love most is the angles can be changed with the twist of just one knob rather than the 4 my old tri-pod has. Completely worth every penny!

Excellent little tripod...!

Very sturdy tripod for use on table top, etc, or when you want to get a low shooting angle or closeup/macro work... Holds my DSLR with lens without creaping or being unstable... Folds up nice and small to carry in camera bag...

High Quality at small size

good tripod, surprisingly good quality, more stable than expected, absolutely worth the money, but not for a heavy dslr with big zoom lens (who expected something else ?). I love it and can recommend it.
