The latches self-destruct (shatter on contact) in cold weather, and the parts can not be replaced. Looking for a new one this year

This is a great little tripod. I purchased this for my world travels. I needed something lightweight, compact, but stable enough for my SLR and tele lenses. Its weight capacity of 5.5lbs is enough for my uses. Overall I was very pleased after having used this in a few different countries. I was able to keep it slung on my shoulder with my camera bag and didn't feel weighed down. It sets up and breaks down very fast, setting up my shot took longer. It was very stable. I can't speak to how tough it is and it's longevity yet, but it feels like it will last for a while.

The Digi 718SHB is certainly a nice tripod. It's small and you can take it anywhere. The thing that makes me very unhappy about it is the quality of the twist locks. The plastic they are made of becomes brittle under freezing temperatures. During a trip to the Grand Canyon 3 locks broke because of the relatively cold weather (-5C/23F). I had to mend them with scotch tape. It's very upsetting as I thought a Manfrotto tripod would last me forever.

This not only fits into my suitcase, but is efficient to use and very stable. I would reccomend this for any enthusiast travelling and needing a tripod.

This is a very nice tripod, easy to carry and set-up with a versatile head that moves into position smoothly for all occasions. Bolt holding camera in position has loosened a tad, need to keep this tightened, probably on a monthly or so basis, but has caused no major interference. It's weight and easy mobility made it a very likeable companion on my recent travels. Will travel with it again. Very nice for night shots off the roof of my building. Holds camera securely in place.

Light, easy to carry, loads a D200 with a 400mm telephoto without problem.

I was looking for something light and compact to carry while traveling to other countries or while riding a motorcycle. I thought that I would have to pay for carbon fiber. I was even willing to sacrifice some stability for small size. I didn't have to. It fits perfectly on my compact Tamrac Expedition 3. It is all that I wanted.

Manfrotto's new compact DIGI tripods are designed to match the technology and features of lightweight compact cameras and the convenience of digital photography, without sacrificing the outstanding support that makes Manfrotto the world's leading producer of tripods for demanding professional photographers.
Because whatever miracles digital technology may have worked, professionals know that blurry photos are still a problem... and that a good quality tripod is probably the most useful accessory you'll ever own.
Like the 714SHB, the 718SHB is an extremely compact 4-section tripod with a short folded length that will fit in your luggage with space left over. The 718SHB has a built-in hybrid video/photo 3-Way head with a "dovetail" quick release camera plate (can be locked in place one-handed), separate pan and tilt locks, and a short pan/tilt bar for more ergonomic use while panning or tracking moving subjects.
The leg pivot system uses a unique single hinge design in aluminum which both keeps the cross section smaller and allows the leg to fold shorter than conventional tripods. The tripod is built with "D" profile tubular legs for extra torsional rigidity and quick flip leg locks for ease and speed of set-up.
A quick action lever also blocks the reversible center column extension. Comes complete with a rucksack style carrying bag. Head movements: PAN 360° / TILT +150° -80° / LEVEL +90° -0°
