Look no further. Build like a tank, smooth as silk, a joy to use.

The ball head clamps pretty tightly but the lock lever needs to be watched closely. The screw on the bottom backs out and allowes the plate to move around. Other than that it's a pretty good head. Fairly light for the size, and stable when the screws are tightened.

This is my first ball head, so can't compare from experience. Good value in the spectrum of ball heads. Really like the features and the simplicity of use.

After years of Bogen/Manfrotto pan tilt tripod head use, I finally made the switch to this ball head and found it easily held my 5D MKIII and 100-400L easily and after adjusting initial tension worked so well I wished I had done this years ago. Made first serious use at Acadia NP and it performed well in sun, wind and frequent rain. Just ordered second one for my lighter hiking tripod.

I love the design of this product. I am a fan of Manfrotto gear - this ball head however takes the cake in terms of form and functionality. Defn sturdier than the earliest ball head models. Smooth panning action. Goes very well with a carbon fiber tripod.

I use it for landscapes/portraits but do not like the plastic release trigger. It will probable eventually break and I'll have to replace it. I don't think in the descriptions ever said anything about the trigger being plastic. hmm

I had Manfrotos Geared head and although it was very enjoyable it was bulky and difficult to work with and travel with. I was looking for a lightweight, fairly compact, strong, easy to use, and precise replacement. This is it. Very precise mechanism able to adjust the direction of knobs so they don't get in the way. The actual mechanics are extremely strong and without abrasive movements only smooth easy adjustments. I would absolutely recommend this product all the others I tried were nowhere near as precise and much jerkier in movements. Again I highly recommend this product.

The instruction sheet could be a little more specific. The drag knob works with no drift or droop with larger lenses.

Another great product from Manfrotto. It repleced smaller head from the same brand; I needed panning option. It's lighter, smooth, seems well built and I hope to serve me well over the years as previous one did.

I purchased this ball head as a replacement for my Manfrotto 804RC2 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head - a wonderful little workhorse, which served me well for many years. It was time to replace my tripod legs, as the locks on my old tripod were worn and I was starting to experience slippage. Although Manfrotto makes some excellent tripod legs, they didn't have one that quite had all of the features that I was looking for. Because I enjoy macro photography, one of the features I wanted was to be able to use the center column in a horizontal position. I ended up going with Vanguard's Alta Pro 263AT, which had this feature, as well as all of the rest, is of quality construction, and still was very reasonably priced. However, after trying my new tripod legs, I quickly discovered that, when the tripod's center column was used in the horizontal position, the Manfrotto 804RC2 3-way head simply did not have adequate range of motion. After doing some online research, I decided to try the 054 Ball Head, as I suspected that it would fit the bill. It did not disappoint. Not only does the 90deg.-105deg. portrait angle selector allow me to achieve the complete range of motion that makes the horizontal column feature on the tripod so nice, but the design, build-quality, and simple ease of use surpassed my expectations. I knew that the 054 would be good from my previous experience with Manfrotto, but this new ball head surprised me. And, while certainly not the cheapest ball head in the marketplace, it is still very reasonably priced for such exceptional quality. People often ask me what kind of tripod head it is when I'm out taking photographs, and I do not hesitate to recommend it. I don't mean to sound like a Manfrotto commercial, but this is a beautiful piece of equipment. I am very satisfied with it and would definitely purchase it again.

I am very happy with this Ballhead. I recently purchased an Arkay 6' Jr. Monostand for my home studio. This required that I purchase the camera gear/ballhead separately. I tried three different ones (returning each one) until I found and purchased the Manfrotto Magnesium Ballhead. It has an amazing secure positioning stablity (stays where I put it) without much effort for going between both landscape and portrait perspectives. It has a smooth panning function when or if I use the video options on my Nikon D90. I also have the ability to quickly remove the camera for spontaneous portrait headshots. The only challenge I have is when I need to position my camera into the portrait slot on the ballhead for an overhead product shot format, it's difficult being able to see into the viewfinder because the arm of the monostand doesn't allow me to look into the viewfinder straight on....but that's not the fault of the Manfrotto Ballhead, just the combination of the design of the monostand and where the notch in the ballhead is for portrait positioning. Otherwise, I'm extremely happy with this product.

Have not had long but seems very sturdy and well built. It is mated with a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. Combo seems to hold my equipment very well.

I needed something tall and precise to photograph paintings in my studio. Purchased with Manfrotto 055XPROB legs to support a Nikon D7000 w/ 18-200 Zoom weighing 3 lbs. Everything is SOLID. No movement whatsoever. The engineering quality, finishes and materials are outstanding. Extremely intuitive and precise adjustments. Very pleased with quality and looks! - Thanks 'frotto!
