Questions & Answers

RODERICK J : Are there nodal slides available for this head? and/or Less expensive L brackets?NANCY M : Sorry, don't have an answer for this.MICHAEL B : Nodal slides and L-brackets are pretty much the domain of the Arca quick-release system. Still, you can mount an Arca base onto the supplied plate, as I do. It's inelegant and a little silly-looking, but it works fine. In fact, I like this head enough that I now use it in place of the classic Arca ball head, which is about triple the price. No, it does't have the Arca's fit and finish, but the ability to separate front and side-tilt with tension control makes it worthwhile.
Shopper : I have a Manfrotto 055XPROB and was wondering if this is a good fit for my tripod? I shoot with a canon 7D with a 70-200 lens with a battery grip. The head I have now is just not enough. Thanks MichelleSERGIO P : Michelle, I don't know about your tripod, camera and lens. The head for me is quite good, The weight of my camera (Nikon D800 and 150-600mm zoom is 3kg, about 6.6 pounds.MARK H : I have the same tripod and new 3 way head. I shoot with a 5d mkll with a 400 lens and it works great. Solid combo.FRANKLIN B : I would trust it. It's pretty small in size, but it's a nice solid head. I shoot with a Nikon D300s and a fairly heavy Sigma lens and have had no issues.AARON C : Yes Michelle, This tripod head can hold your gear easily. If you don't have one, a tripod collar on your 70-200 will help balance the weight.JAMES H : This Manfrotto will hold your camera and lens with no problem. I use this from a wheelchair mount and with about the same weight. It is a little heavy, but it is worth the extra .KEVIN W : I have a 70 to 200 lens also and the camera secures fine with the lens harness. I have used it with a battery grip. It's more awkward, but it still works fine. It is the best tripod head I have ever worked with, but it takes some getting used to. I also like the way the knob arms can extend out and retract back to get out of the way. I didn't know it did that until I first tried it out. In my opinion, if is extremely flexible.TOM P : I have not yet used this tripod / head combination extensively. However, I have used it on a number of occasions. My first impression of handling the tripod and the head separately was that both felt very solid and very well-built. They are both hefty pieces of gear. When the MHXPRO-3W X Pro 3-Way Head is attached to the 055XPROB tripod, the combined weight and sturdiness, and the more than 17lb weight-capacity of the head give me great confidence my Nikon D300 with 70 - 300 mm Lens is atop a very sturdy tower. I found the controls of the Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W X Pro 3-Way Head to be very solid and very precise, always remaining in the exact position I had set it. Even when making multiple fractional adjustments, the head performed very solidly and precisely. Not once did I see any indication that the head could not handle the weight of my camera and lens, regardless of position or adjustment. I could not be happier with this gear. Thank You....Tom PRICHARD C : Hi, Michelle, I shoot a Nikon d7000, using a number of different lenses, depending on subject matter. The largest and heaviest of these lenses is a Tamron 200-500 mm. The Manfrotto has given me no problems whatsoever. I hope this helps. Cheers, Dick ConwayBRUCE T : It will handle that no problem. This head is awesome, you'll love it!SCOTT A : The Pro 3W should honestly be Have shot with both heads and have the exact same 7D/canon 70-200 f/2.8 set up. Hope this helps!!!Ronald G : Hi Michelle, I think it's a great head. I'm putting more weight than you on it and it is fine. I think you'll be happy with it.
Shopper : is this head stable enough for really long nature zooms, long exposures and night photography, or am I better off with the 808RC4 from manfroto?FRANKLIN B : Great product and a fair price. It's pretty solid, but not sure if I would go longer that a 400mm. Of course, that depends on the lens weight and if you use a lens collar. (which I hope you do) Is it top of the line Pro quality equipment....no, is it great for us who just love to shoot with good quality equipment, it great! I normally shoot with a D300s and 300mm+ lens and have had no issues. Give it a shot, I think you'll be happy!BRUCE T : I love it, once it's locked down it never moves but I haven't tried it with anything longer than a 70-300 yet. It is solid enough to trigger the shutter button by hand and not have any shake in the image with my setup.MARK H : This is a great head. I had been using the action grip Manfrotto head for years. I use this head with a Canon 5D mkii + Canon 400 - 5.6 lens. It performs very well. Big improvement over the grip head. Nice size, build and flexibility. Very steady with long exposures.SCOTT A : Hello, I think this head is fine for a lens up to say, 70-200, or a 100-400 focal length. I would say if you are shooting say a 200mm f/2, you may want to go with the 808 RC4. Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!AARON C : I'm very pleased with this tripod head. I haven't mounted a large nature lens on it, but it holds a 5D3 and a 70-200 2.8 IS pretty sturdy. If you're using a tripod collar with your nature lens then you probably won't have any trouble. Hope that helps.CHARLES A : I have not used it for long exposure yet. Used primarily for HDR and macro. Will eventually use it for long exposure just have had the right setting. It is very stable and I would not hesitate to use it for long exposure. An oversize 600 mm lens is the only one I think might push the limits. Very practical. Friction controls allow for easier fine tuning. As good as the larger head I own but easier to controlFREDERICK D : Solid... and very stable... most of your stability concerns will be with the support mechanism such as the tripod. This head tightens right up with no play whatsoever. I'm very pleased with it.EVELYN H : I have been quite pleased with the smooth operation and stability of this head. Manfrotto did an excellent job of engineering this head. The 300mm Canon lens with my 5D MKIII with grip didn't tax this head in the least. Only advice is to make sure the quick release is attached securely with the heavier kit.SERGIO P : I think it is quite stable even with my D800 with a Tamtron 150-600mm zoom. About 3kg/6.6lb. I could not say if better or not with 808RC4 from Manfrotto since I don't have that one.JAMES R : The head was stable enough to hold my Nikon DSLR with 70-200 F2.8 zoom lens with 2x teleconverter. The only problem I had photographing the moon was that the head would not point up high enough. I had to mount the camera backwards where the clamp arms were pointing away from me which made it uncomfortable to make position changes.CRAIG H : I've used it successfully with a full frame Nikon camera and a 80-400 mm zoom lens doing a panorama shot. I use a 10 pound bag of lead attached to the tripod for stability.

Great 3-way head, but needs Arca-Swiss quick release option.

Having tried many tilt/shift head, including the Gitzo, I find this model far and away the best available. The only downside is the lack of an arca-swiss head - a must have for those who employ L-bracket quick release plates. Manfrotto should offer an arca-swiss quick release option. I had to buy a 3rd party conversion kit, which is no longer made.

NIce Tripod Head, easy to use, but mine had a grip fail, so now we'll see how the warranty works...

I'm giving it a 4-star review, in that it functions as a 5-star product, but one of the leveler handle's grips, STOPPED GRIPPING! So I can no longer level the head, and rendered it useless! I am still under warranty, so I'll need to ship it off to get fixed. Other than that, it's a great product. I have babied this all the time I've had it, I don't throw it around or chuck it or any abuse at all. Even then, the grip just started slipping, out of the blue. Not sure why it happened, but I just think it's a defect, possibly. I'll update the review (if that is possible) once I get it back from being repaired. It does come with a 3-year warranty, if you register it, like I did. I will admit, that for the meantime, I went ahead and got a Peak Design Travel Aluminum Tripod for the interim. It comes with a Lifetime Warranty, which is nice. However, the ball-head style head is not my favorite type of head, compared to the ease of use with this head.

Great tripod head

I was really happy with this tripod head. My camera and lens are very heavy about 15 lbs/7kg. I purchased two other tripods even one that was recommended and the heads would not carry the weight. Not only does it carry the weight it is super easy to level the head in either portrait or landscape. I am very happy with this head. It is very easy to attach the camera and its very secure with a extra catch to make sure you do not accidentally release your camera.

Easy adjustment and stable with 200mm lens.

I have tried this head with my Nikon 800 with a 70-200mm lens. The combined weight is about 3.5 kilos. I am very pleased with the stability and ease of adjustment of this head compared with my previous head. I recommend the Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W X Pro 3-Way Head without reservation.

Nice head for light weight 4x5 field camera

I have been using a Ball head for years with 4x5 light weight cameras. I replaced it with this head and am amazed at how much easier it is to level and adjust the camera. I walk with the camera on the tripod quite a bit so had to adjust the tension a little tighter incase I didn’t lock it down tight. Supports the max 5 pounds of my camera/lens on a light weight tripod adequately. The handles are easy to get to whether extended or not. The tripod no longer fits in its slim case with this head but that is not a major issue.

Outstanding tripod head....But.

The 3-way head provides very precise control of the subject. Each axis is independently controlled which is far superior to other tripod heads. Build quality is outstanding and should provide excellent service for decades. The retractable arms are a definite space saving feature. However, most Manfrotto heads proved a simple one-handed secure drop in for the quick release plates. This unit will only engage in one of the four possible directions and requires two hands to engage and lock in the plate. It is very scary to envision $ of equipment falling to the ground.

It's good, but for the price & brand, I expected great.

The head works fine. Could have a little more tilt range. The levers hold it tight... not much travel... but definitely some. The level on it is useless... it's engineered to level the seat for the plate, but the surface of the plate doesn't sit parallel to the plane of the seat.

I purchased this because my existing head wouldn't securely support my camera/super-telephoto lens. This head has all of the fine control I need with plenty of strength to support my heavy equipment.

Smooth movement in all three directions

Smooth movement in all three directions. Retractable handles make storage easier and allow for better control over adjustments. Easily handles weight of long lenses. Great for shooting vertical. Reason for only 3 stars is because it will not allow for shooting at higher angles.

Explore the world of professional photography with the Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W XPRO 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head, a pinnacle of engineering designed for photographers who demand precision and reliability. This head is crafted with a robust aluminum body, ensuring it can support a substantial load of up to 12 kg (26.5 lbs), making it suitable for a wide range of camera and lens combinations.

The innovative design of the XPRO 3-Way Head features retractable levers that significantly reduce its footprint when not in use, making it exceptionally easy to pack and transport. When extended, these levers provide photographers with the leverage needed for precise adjustments.

Friction controls on both the tilt and portrait axes are meticulously engineered to balance the weight of your camera gear. This allows for fine-tuning of the composition with the locking knobs open, ensuring that every shot is perfectly framed before securing the position. The inclusion of three built-in spirit levels aids in achieving a flawlessly levelled shot, directly in-camera, which minimizes the need for time-consuming post-production corrections.

The head comes equipped with the 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate, which facilitates swift and secure camera attachment. This feature is invaluable for photographers who need to switch between shots and setups quickly, without sacrificing stability or control.

Whether you're capturing breathtaking landscapes, intricate architectural details, or studio-quality portraits, the Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W XPRO 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate is an indispensable tool that combines functionality with ergonomic design for the ultimate photographic experience.
