Questions & Answers

leonard s : does it come with a quick release plate?RAKESH K : Yes it does.
Shopper : Will the quick release head work with my Nikon 5100, or do I need an adaptor?WILLIAM M : I have the Nikon 5100...yes it works..no adaptor needed.GEORGE T : I'm afraid I don't know the answer for sure, but I suspect it will. The quick release will certainly screw into the bottom of the camera, so the only question would be whether the camera lens and other paraphernalia will clear the tripod head. You can probably get a definitive answer by placing a call to a Manfrotto (Bogen) distributor.KENNETH S : You shouldn't need to buy an additinal adaptor. The Manfrotto 394 tripod includes one adaptor plate to attach to a standard 1/4" threaded camera body connection. You attach the adaptor to the camera then slip the quick relaease adaptor into the head of the tripod. If your camera has a standard 1/4" mounting hole, it should work. If you have more than one camera body or any large lenses that have their own mounting points, you might want to buy additional adaptors for each item. Otherwise, you will need to take the adaptor off of one item and transfer it to the other. I hope this helps.
Shopper : Can i use this tripod for d7000? Do you guys recommend this? If not, please give me some recommendations.JERRY B : The tripod ovetall is ok but if u had the funds a nd are planning to use this for vid i would rec the 701headclass with any tripod leg system

Great Tripod for the price

I mostly do portraits and long exposure shots. This tripod is perfect for that. Even with my battery grip the tripod supports my camera. Granted it's not a heavy camera to begin with (Canon 600D). I love it and it's great, especially for the price!

Does what it says on the tin

Our community college purchased a few of these tripods for use by photography students and the library's media center. An excellent choice for non-professional use. They are lightweight, perfect for carrying across campus to document events, classes, meetings, etc. Although the head doesn't move all that smoothly this does not matter much when taking still photos or shooting basic video. The carrying bag is also lightweight and simple, if not particularly protective. The tripod is surprisingly sturdy. Glad to have this model & wold enthusiastically recommend.

Sturdy travel tripod!

This is a wonderful tripod for a great price. I was deciding between this Manfrotto's MKC3 and 393 series. Ultimately, I'm glad I chose this as a nice balance between the 5-section ultracompact MKC3 and the larger 3-section 393. It comes with a quick release (QR) plate, which is basically a little piece that you screw into your camera's tripod socket so that you can attach your camera to the tripod instantly. This is a very important feature for serious shooters. It has 4 sections and 3 latches per leg, as well as a center latch to lock the center column. The tripod head is a standard ball head design that can be rotated 360 degrees. The only downside I can find about this tripod is that it only has one knob for tightening the ball head; more sophisticated heads will have two knobs, one for locking the camera in place and the other for locking the head from rotation, allowing for easier panning for panorama shots. But I guess I can't complain given that this is a sub-$100 tripod. Now let's talk about weight. It's quite light, and you can easily sling the provided bag over your shoulder. However, it feels very sturdy, and should hold anything short of a 400 mm lens mounted on a D4 or 1DX. I've used it with my D5100, even with telephoto lenses, and there doesn't seem to be any instability. Regarding length, it's not the most compact, but it can still fit in a backpack (though it won't be very comfortable). If you're biking, you can tie it to your rack with bungee cords, or even to the underside of the top bar of the bike frame. (Note: I have a medium men's frame. This may not work with small or female frames.) When fully extended, it reaches a height just short of eye level for the average adult man.
