I don't develop my own film, but I do doubles or accidentally over rewind my film sometimes. I got tired of fumbling to retrieve a film leader when all I wanted to do is transfer a film roll from one camera to another. This little tool saves me headaches and stress. It is lightweight and easy to keep in my camera bag.

You need to follow the directions as written and be patient, but the product works fine

I had it open the first or second try following the directions, after that its easy to remember the steps and its so small its easy to bring it out on the field

I first purchased a Kaiser retriever but had very little luck with it. I followed its directions to a tee and it still managed to mangle a couple of my rolls. I went back to the store and picked up one of these and it worked without a hitch the first time. I keep it in an empty film canister as an added measure to prevent it from being bent but it is thick enough that it should not require any special treatment. This is yet another case of utilitarian design and no-nonsense form trumping modern design and materials. Don't waste your money on the much more expensive Kaiser. This one does the job perfectly.

Simple design. Intuitive, easy to use. Also easy to lose; buy several, they're cheap.

You need to read the instructions in order to use it properly, don't just assume that you know how to do it because of it's simplistic look and feel.
