B&W filters are a bit more expensive, but well worth the difference in price.

Very nice quality. Got it as lens protector. How well it does that is debatable. For me the biggest benefit is that the filter is easier to clean than the front lens element.

Made the mistake of throwing a "Amazon basic" UV filter on my new lens right before a trip. "it's just a UV filter... how bad could it be, right?" Horrible flare straight-up ruined a pile of otherwise stunning sunrise photos in my set. Didn't catch it until post processing at home. Buy it right the first time. It's not like this B&W filter even breaks the bank. It's a steal and the difference was night and day.

I prefer B+W filters because they clean easier. They don't fog while cleaning. I also like the thinness of the mounting ring. No vignetting.

B+W filters are the only filters I use. Why pay a lot for a good body and lenes only to jeopardize a shot with an inferior filter?

I use this more for moisture and damage protection of lens coatings/glass in the field than anything. I notice image improvement on foggy/hazy days, and will use it in tandem with a shade/hood to prevent image flaring.

I love that this filter as are all B+W filters are made of metal, not plastic. They are a little more expensive, but have great glass and are in my opinion more durable.

What do I know from color tint? It protects my expensive (TO ME) lens, isnt the cheapest or most expensive. Other people who claim to know something liked it. Images through it are clear. What more could you ask?

The debate over UV filters in the digital era will rage on. And while others do so I'll be sitting here not worried because B+W are that good and I have that much confidence in their product.

This filter?s glass is hard to see. That is because it does an excellent job with its nano coating of not creating ghost images. And the glass is flat ? real flat! I only get filters with brass rings now because I have learned that aluminum rings sometimes don?t come off without a set of good filter wrenches, which cannot be good for the lens or camera. The rings on the B + W series are brass - the right stuff! This filter is more expensive than a lot of other UV filters, but I don?t want a poorly made filter to degrade the image I can get with an expensive lens.

Other than the lack of the word "Canon," this lens hood is a dead ringer for the one made by Canon. It slips on petals out just fine, and also petals back over the lens so it fits in my over-the-shoulder camera bag. Very affordable. Recommended.

I would purchase this type of filter for all my lenses. Great quality, slim body and doesn't affect my images.

I like the filter so far. I?ve put it on a macro lens and it seems to be helpful with the light while also protecting the lens. The fit was perfect and the quality is very good.

Love my B+W filters. Pictures continue to look fantastic through my Sigma Art lens. The brass constructions provides confidence against ring seizing vs the lens threads.

I love it so much!! It was so good I had this put on before my trip. I was at the beach and lots of sand dust and wave sprinkles landed on the filter. Such a great investment to protect your expensive lens!

It works! From experience.

I have always used filters to protect my lenses, but recently I (accidentally) put this filter to the test! It was on my Canon 24mm 1.4 L lens when it fell (sans lens cap) out of my camera bag onto a concrete floor, front side down. Yikes. The filter cracked and looked like a spiderweb, but did not shatter. I checked it out and it appeared that the lens was not scratched. However, the impact had dented the edge so that I could not unscrew the filter. After seeking advice from a professional, ...

Wow!! Awesome filter!!!
By CRAIG M.
Quite some time ago while I was considering a Nikon D200, then a D300, (but more recently -- and I'm glad I procrastinated, purchased the Nikon D90!), I purchased a fairly inexpensive set of 3 standard Merkury filters, mostly for lens protection and some UV and haze reduction. HUGE mistake! You get what you pay for. No multi-coating, either. The fit on the Nikon 18-200mm zoom was very good. Problem is: the filter simply did not work. Oh, I got great "effects" from the cheap filter, bu...

This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. These filters should be called UV-Blocking Filters, because there are filters for technical applications that pass UV radiation and block all the other wavelengths. Nevertheless, the short term "UV Filter" has become established among photographers.
UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.
Filter Coating
Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC)
MRC by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance.
Filter Mount
This filter uses our standard B+W F-Pro filter mount, which has a front accessory thread and is made of brass. Compared to the earlier standard mount introduced in 2001, the F-Pro mount has become thinner. Now it can be used with wide angle lenses, including most 24mm focal lengths on a full frame body, without vignetting. Another advantage of the F-Pro mount is it's modified retaining ring, which is no longer threaded in from the front, but holds the filter glass in place from the back. When removing a filter or lens hood that has been screwed on too tight to the filter, the retaining ring is not at risk of loosening
