excellent quality filter

I use this filter for landscape photograhy mainly. I have had cheap ones in the past, and never used them. By contrast, this one looses very little light, has strong effect, has not yet shown lens flair, and the sharpness seems unchanged. It goes on and off easily, actually too easily. When I rotate it, I have to turn it only in the tightening direction or it will unthread. The lack of thread on the outbord side is only a concern in two conditions. If you want to add an ND filter after setting the polarizer. Or, if you want to make your own variable ND filter by adding a linear polarizer on top.

If you want the best

You've purchased good glass even if it's consumer glass. Why put a cheap filter on it? All filters cause additional flare that costs you contrast. The very best have the least flare. This B+W has been tested to show that it is almost flare free. Also cheap filters mount the glass stressed that bends with various temperatures and humidity. Aluminum rings oxidize with time. Brass does not, and you can easily remove this filter without a filter wrench. Schott Glass is the glass company owned by Schneider and is one of the most compelling reasons to buy a German made filter. Finally, these filters are batch dyed and have waterproof coatings that are very easy to clean and are very hard.

About B + W 62mm Kaesemann Polarizer Slim Mount MRC Filter

B&W Kaeseman Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Slim Glass filters are constructed from specially selected polarizer foils with especially prepared optical glass. Completely edge-sealed, these Kaeseman encased series filters are designed for maximum durability under extreme climate conditions.

Polarizing filters suppress disturbing reflection on mirrored surfaces like windows or water surfaces. As a result image information can be restored much better as the filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens, and saturate colors, providing better contrast.

Varying the effect is accomplished by rotating the filter, the effect of which can be seen through the viewfinder. The filter factor varies from weaker to stronger according to the filter rotation and its orientation to the sun. The B + W series of slim line filters are intended for wide-angle lenses and are a mere 3mm thick to avoid vignetting. Thus the slim line filters do not have a front thread.
